Hi Everyone!

I just needed to comment on "True Love Ways."

This song is by far my favorite Buddy Holly song. I have always said
that I when I get married the song I want to dance to is "True Love
Ways." For me the simplicity of the lyrics is what makes this a sweet,
sincere love song, but the beautiful melody and violins don't hurt
either.

I doubt Nanci is offended by Sonny Curtis including this song. She
appears to be a romantic soul and often writes lyrics of sweet sentiment
like the ones in "True Love Ways."

my biased two cents,
Tanya

By the way, I really enjoyed the Crickets at the concert. I thought
they were fun.

I believe what Sonny said was that Buddy Holly wrote this song when he was
17 or eighteen, and he thought it was a good song for someone of that age.
No,it's not in incredibly mature or insightful number, but SHEESH, so what?
If people enjoy it, let them!

Dear NanciNetters,

Finally getting around to putting in my two cents' worth: I thoroughly loved
seeing the Crickets on the tour. Here in Minnesota, we saw them at the very
beginning of the tour in January. I knew they would be fun, they were, and I
think that they appeal to all kinds of people. They are ageless. The songs
are ageless. "True Love Ways" is very sweet. It doesn't sound like Buddy's
other songs, that's true, and I have heard that he was very proud of that
song. I enjoy hearing the Crickets play it, and I love hearing them play
with Nanci. The word is Fun. The world needs more Fun. Nanci is having Fun
playing with them and it is contagious! Also, I would venture to say that
Nanci appreciates Fun all the more after her breast cancer experience. It is
perfect that the Crickets are with her on this tour.

This is probably old news, but for all vinyl freaks,
the Vinyl edition of 'Blue Roses...' is still available
both from CDWorld And CDNow internet shops for approx 10$.
I got mine today, and my biggest problem right now is
whether I should break the sealing or not...
I also got the 'Stone Country' CD, and Nanci's version of
'No Expectations' is just great!

For all of you who saw the message last week about Nanci in Houston in
2039, I have some more information. I called Houston ticketmaster to see
if they could clarify the mistake, but the lady I spoke with did not know
what I was talking about. Unfortunately, she said there are no plans for
visit Houston anytime in the near future. Oh well...... If anyone has
different information, please post it.

Happy Halloween everyone!

I'm curious to know if any of the new members to NanciNet found out
about us from those great T-shirts that Shawn, etc. brought to life
and we all got to sport at the Nanci concerts?

And.....what do folks think about the live CD's from Village Records
(Love Affairs in a Foreign Town and Sound of Loneliness)?

hi,
saw nanci as an unknown (to me) in her first appearance in these parts, at
the ann arbor folk festival in jan. 1985, and became a fan right away. only
recently have gotten on line capability, but we knew of this nancinet some
time ago. (we were at rocky mtn. folks fest in both '95 and this summer, so
we've seen and met some of you guys). other than those trips, our concert
experiences with nanci have been limited to her michigan shows, but these
have been many and always wonderful. her fondness for this area is documented
with her mentioning of the ark in ann arbor in the liner notes of "one fair
summer evening".
nancinet at last, but definitely feel a bit out of the loop-- i've read alot
of stuff in the past couple of days alone that i was unaware of, and there is
much catching up to do. i'll ramble on no further, but did want to give a bit
of an introduction before blurting in. so, what are these "live village
records cds?" are they some imports, or bootlegs? how is the quality, and
where are they available, etc.? i'm very much interested in collecting live
nanci tapes also, and have a few nice things available to trade.
                                                                        greetin

I'm having a great time (and learning a lot) following the Crickets/Buddy
Holly/Sonny Curtis thread. I heard a Sonny song in an unusual place last
night...a gig I went to down the East Village of New York, where many of the
downtown bands dressed as their influences & played a set. No, the band I
heard didn't dress up as the Crickets...but as the Clash. And the entire
audience sang along to a kick-out-the-jams version of "I Fought the Law." I
suspect I was the only person in the audience who'd also seen the songwriter
perform it (along with Nanci last month at Hammerstein Ballroom). (and I'm
PRETTY sure I'm the only person who's seen Sonny/Nanci AND Joan Jett perform
"Love Is All Around.") Ol' Sonny certainly has his OWN place in rock'n'roll
history. (Oh, and one of the bands dressed up as ZZ Top, pretending they were
from Texas...wouldn't it be a hoot if Nancy & the BMO came out one night in
full beards, shades & hats? I'd love to hear their cover of "Tush")

Dear Nancinetters,

I have two tickets available for the Nanci show at the Warfield on
November 10. They're floor seats (general admission), for which I paid
$60 (total, including service charge). I'm extremely distressed that I
won't be able to use these tickets for the LAST world tour, but I'm off
on a business trip to Indonesia, so I guess I shouldn't complain too
much. If anybody is interested in the tickets please let me know at
jx2@earthlink.net. Thanks, and hope everyone else enjoys the show.

Subject: Lee Satterfield: Songwriter

Hi Netters...

The BMO is back on the road enroute to the West Coast gigs...look for some
appearances on the El Lay based TV shows soon...Jay Leno, etc...etc... ?

Lee Satterfield has composed a beautiful song for Sylvia Hutton's comeback
album:
The song is "I Will Not Forget You". Those of us fortunate enough to be at
the Knoxville Bluemoon Jam may recall that Lee played it for us...(on Kelly's
guitar) :^)
Sylvia Hutton is the same artist that went by "Sylvia" in the 80's and sold
Zillions of hit records, won Female country artist awards, CMA's and so on.
The new album is called "The Real Story" on Red Pony label... She has a
website:

                               http://songs.com/sylvia/sh-home.html

There is a realaudio sample of Lee's song too ! And for real Nanci
Griffith/BMO trivia hounds: The producer is John Mock, who just happens to be
married to whom? For $200 of Ben Stein's money...? Yep...Lee Satterfield !
I bet Bill from (N.Y now ?) got that one...! And Mr. Mock is also listed in
the musician/guests credits on OVOR 2.

Okay you West Coasters...we expect up to the minute postings on the latest
concerts...and keep the Cricket bashing to a minimum please...( My West Texas
wife, Jimmie, made my include that...Sonny Curtis could be her dad...!)

Rave On Folkies !

Subject: Important Tape Tree Info

Here's the important information to participate in the tape tree for the
Live In London 1988 cassette. This is the same radio performance that's
heard on the Love Affairs In A Foreign Town bootleg but is from a much
better source. The performance fits perfectly on a 60 minute cassette.
There's two filler cuts on the tape that I'll let be a surprise to everyone.
The first generation copies are on there way to the branches therefore I
expect it will be a Happy Thanksgiving season in NanciLand.

I had plenty of volunteers to serve as branches but to make things fair I
picked the first five that came in by date and time. Originally I had said
I would only give out three but that would have put too much work on each
person so now that number is five. By the way, I'm still waiting for that
fifth person to respond to the e-mail I sent them, otherwise I'll be forced
to pick someone else from the dozen or so people who offered to help.

Since someone needs to coordinate the tree so that all the work doesn't
burden the same person, I have volunteered to monitor the requests. You
should send an e-mail to me chesman@preferred.com asking to be put on the
tree list. I will then pass your request to one of the branches.

Your branch person will then contact you by e-mail to get a mailing address
and to work out the flow of materials. Some folks like to receive blank
tapes, postage, and return mailers, others will purchase these materials for
you at a reimbursement cost to save time. You'll work this out with your
branch.

Please follow the procedure above to get in on the tree but just so you'll
know who the branches are I'm listing them here:
        Norm Watson from Colorado
        Blake Marshall from North Carolina
        Hank Van Slyke from Texas
John Burden from the U.K. (It's obvious which requests I'll send him)
??? (I will wait till midnight tonight to hear from this person)

If you've already emailed me about getting a tape I will get back in touch
with you by e-mail over the next day to make sure your request doesn't get
lost as we get things started.

I'm still interested in trading with others that have Nanci tapes....

Enjoy the music...

Mike
