Subject: Both Sessions performances to be re-run!!
For anyone who missed 'em the first time around:
On January 31st, the "Sessions at West 54th" with Nanci Griffith and Billy
Bragg will be re-run. This is the whole wompin' half hour segment.
Then, on February 21st, the Richard Thompson segment with Nanci doing
background vocals on "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" will be re-run. This
is amazing!
Pretty neat - the entire "Sessions" series is going to be re-run beginning
on January 10. DON'T MISS: Emmylou Harris & Daniel Lanois (1/10), Bobby
McFerrin (1/24), Sonic Youth (2/14), Shawn Colvin (2/28), Beck & Ben Folds
Five (5/16), and Gillian Welch (6/6). I love this show!!
---John
(and, of course, don't miss Nanci or Richard!!!! : - ) )

Subject: top ten correction
Hi all,
Hey, these new bifocals actually work. I was reading the liner notes on
the Richard Shindell CD "Reunion Hill" when I realized I made an error
when I posted my top ten. The hidden track at the end is actually a
Merle Haggard tune: "Sing Me Back Home". I didnt mention that the last
listed track is written by Townes: "I'll Be Here in the Morning". I
dont recall seeing it mentioned in the recent TVZ discussions but its a
good song: lyrically, musically and Shindell's cover.
Finally, just got a copy of the live Nanci tape, circa 1980. 90 minutes
of Nanci alone: just guitar and vocals. Wish I was there. Maybe she'll
revisit this form again in the future. Thanks Jeff and Dennis! Thanks
Nanci and thanks MF and the NanciNet for another great year!
Happy Holidays,
Tom

Subject: Season's Best
Dear Nannuits --
Just wanted to wish the best of the season to those many
people who have become part of my extended "family" in the past
almost-year. It's been a blast! Let's do it again! -- Hope to
meet more of you in person some day.
Here's to a year filled (well, almost filled!) with Nanci-surprises.
May she rest well and sally forth to delight us once more!
Jerry

Subject: Not much Nanci and mainly for Brits
Hi folks, I'm back. Do I hear groans from all you old-timers - not that
idiot Limey again? 'Fraid so. Hey, how about a bit of seasonal spirit?
It was Hans posting of Ralph McTell's bio which prompted this. Did that bit
about his upbringing in 'war-torn South London' tug at your heart strings?
Well it shouldn't - it was fun. All those bombed out building were just
heaven-sent (literally I suppose) for young boys. Many of them were fenced
off of course, with 'Keep Out or else' notices, but the little-boy-proof
fence had yet to be invented. And once inside you could smash windows and
kick down doors and do all those destructive things young boys love to do,
and no-one cared coz the building was going to be demolished anyway when
they could get around to it. And the biggest dare of all was to steal a box
of matches from mother's kitchen and climb over the rubble to get into that
dark cellar, ready to run a mile if you caught sight of that ghost or dead
body or skeleton that every kid in the neighbourhood just knew was there.
Dangerous? I suppose so, but we were too young to care. Oh, and the
Christmas's were always white and the sun shone all summer long...
But enough of this rambling. What I wanted to say for all us lucky folks
who live on the east side of the Atlantic is that from 7 January, Ralph is
taking over as permanent presenter of BBC Radio's Folk Club program. Over
the past couple of years, Ralph has stood in for a few weeks each summer
while the regular guy took a break. And if he sticks to the same format,
then the show will be one not to be missed. Ralph gives the word 'folk' a
fairly wide interpretation; he's not above including a bit of blues or even
rock. But mostly it's British and American folk-oriented stuff, with a bit
of 'world music' thrown in. And of course, our Nanci gets the odd mention.
So remember, every Wednesday, Radio 2, 8 p.m. (unless they change the
schedule).
And for a bit of Nanci-related information - a couple of years ago on the
show, Ralph talked about the origins of 'From Clare to here', the gist of
which I published on this Net about a year ago. It wasn't exactly riveting
stuff so I won't bore you all even more with the details. But if anyone
wants to know, email me and I'll dig out the post.
That's all folks, Happy New Year to you all.
TonyB.

Santa brought me *Poet In My Window* (NG) and *Rear View Mirror* (TVZ). Once
again you guys are right on in your critiques. I'm definitely going to have to
rearrange the number one slot in my NG collection.
Happy holidays,
Ed (Santa also kicked in an HP694 and a 56K flex) Maier
:-)
