// The mystery song with Nanci is identified. Also, a greeting from

Subject: mystery recording

I've been lurking a long time but am writing to respond to the question
about the mystery recording. The artist is Gove Scrivenor and Nanci sings
backup on the title track "Shine On". James Hooker plays keyboard and piano
on several tracks. The CD is a mix of covers and original music and also
features John Prine on one track. It was produced by Pat McInerney. I
bought this CD from Gove when he played at a local club and have really
enjoyed it. The address for No Age Records is 5930 Renee Terrace in
Pensacola, Fl 32507. If anyone is familiar with the Flora-Bama Lounge, Gove
plays there regularly (I think every Monday night).

Since we found out that Nanci does a harmony vocal on the album "Shine On"
(thanks to Barbara Steele for that info), I thought I would see if there was
anything about the artist on the web. Although it isn't specifically about
the album "Shine On", on the No Age label, I did locate some artist info at
this site....

Subject: Favorite Nanci Albums and Songs

Nanci-Netters, I've just gotten reacquainted with the Nanci-Net and
related websites. Isaw a ranking of favorite Nanci albums and songs
somewhere but now I can'tfind the same place again. Since I've se
en others post their favorites, here's my list of favorites:Fav
orite Albums:1. Other Voices, Other Rooms. This album has introduced
me to other artiststhat I now like almost as much as Nanci (that may
be an exageration).2. Little Love Affairs. My first Nanci CD. Only
one thing wrong with thisCD, it's too short! My favorite verse ever
: In So Long Ago, "I saw you oncein a croweded bar . . ."3. L
ast of the True Believers. Though my copy has the play list wrong on the
CD liner. Is that generally true?4. Blue Roses From the Moons. I
've read some disparaging remarks about thisCD that I just don't u
nderstand. This is classic Nanci. At first I wasconvinced that it wa
sn't Nanci singing on Gulf Coast Highway, but now I thinkit's prob
ably her, though I wouldn't be surprised if there was some trick tom
aking her voice sound that way.5. Once in a Very Blue Moon. Gets bet
ter and better the more I listen to it.Favorite Songs:1. More T
han a Whisper (from One Fair Summer Evening). To me, this songconveys
a feeling of loneliness. The words, Nanci's voice, the melody. I'm
not saying it's her best song, just my favorite. I've seen her in
concertthree times but I've never heard her sing this song. And I
guess I never willnow.2. Gulf Coast Highway (Little Love Affairs).
You just don't hear many songsabout lifetime committment and love.
This is certainly the best.3. Wouldn't That be Fine. I may be ov
erly influenced by the newness of thissong. (For some reason I associ
ate this song with Say It Isn't So, which isalso a great song and ha
s the single most sexy moment on any Nanci CD. Whenshe says "Baby
" for the last time in that song, wow!)4. Down N Outer. Why this s
ong didn't become a huge pop hit, I can't guess.In the days when t
he plight of the homeless was front page news, I envisionedthis as a v
ery powerful video. 5. Waltzing With the Angels. Simple and pure.
Makes me think of Nanci as ayoung singer-songwriter. Too bad I didn
't know about her music back then. Of course, choosing between N
anci Griffith CDs and songs is like a parentpicking favorites amongst
their kids--it isn't fair! I'm very disappointed that Nanci wil
l not tour again. I dreamed of seeingher in concert in Ireland. Now
that I'm living in Germany, I thought I'd havethat chance and was
tentatively planning a vacation there this summer withhopes that she w
ould be there, too. Oh well, Ireland should be nice anyway.Kevin C
