NanciNet Digest 12-24-98
// As I write this we're just an hour or so into Christmas morning
// here in New York...Dawn-Marie and I have just returned from the
// late service, where once again the simplicity of music and
// candlelight helped me to shrug off my Scrooge-like tendancies.
// This has been a good year for us, and we hope it has been for
// you, as well.
// This is a short digest, but there won't be one again until late
// Saturday night. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, let's all
// keep the light of hope shining.
// Enjoy...[BP]

Hi listeners,
All of this recent talk about good cheer and warmth has made me remember that
these music listservs are about more than the music.
I'm spending the holiday with my family, which will be increasing on New
Year's Eve, when my nephew will be born. He's been on his way for more than
six years, so he's the most amazing Christmas gift that my family and I could
ever imagine. I've never had a child of my own (and don't plan on it), so
this little guy is the closest I've ever come to knowing the pure,
unconditional love that a baby can inspire. Two days ago, I went to the
doctor's office with my sister/best friend and watched while the sonogram gave
us a nearly photographic image of his face--all chubby cheeks and big eyes,
his chin thoughtfully propped on his little cupped hand.
To all of you who have experienced and shared your miracles this year--Steve
and his good-humored surgery, Deb and her victory over the summer, Gin and her
blissful nuptials to her high school sweetheart, and the rest of you who
haven't shared your life-affirmations this year, I wish you the absolute best
of holidays.
On this holiday and every day of the year, I am striving to appreciate the
small wonders of the world as well as the major accomplishments, and to
acknowledge the glory when I see it. Sharing the attraction of a musician
brings us all together on these lists, and I am grateful to be a part of such
dynamic, friendly people who post messages daily or yearly. Maybe it's an
inspiration from a line in a song. Maybe it's a touching story about a memory
that a song has rekindled. I appreciate all of it; thank you, fellow
NanciNetters and Moonpiers for the daily escapes you provide. As Nanci
Griffith says, paraphrasing a few wise souls before her, "Love one another; it
works!"
Blessings,
Lisa

From: snownobile@earthlink.net
Hi Everybody:
Happy holidays to all!
Well they have Nanci listed again for Austin City Limits this
weekend. Major let down last weekend, but what a great after Christmas
gift. Nothing better than unwinding with Nanci after a busy week.
Updating some old stuff, which includes Nanci's Lone Star State of
Mind. This is the second time I have purchase this and ended up with a
defective CD. It plays along, then sticks on a spot and sounds like a
rapid fire machine gun. Anyone have the same problem, or an answer to
what is going on? Do they have bad runs of CDs? I have played it in 3
different players, and this is the only CD that I have a problem with.
Why does it have to be a Nanci?
Best wishes for the New Year
