Subject: tour dates and ramblings
Hi folks:
Been a long time has it not since I last walked around these cyber halls?
Life has been simply beautiful in many ways, and the freshness of spring in
the Vermont hills, the Calgary Mountains, the coast of Monterey, Newport
Beach, the prairies of Kansas, the west Texas hills and music of Austin,
the white sand of the Florida west coast and the Majesty of the Rockies are
all places that life has given me the good fortune of experiencing in that
past two months at a time when all life comes back alive and even the smell
of the air is so very different and wonderful.
I've not been home as much as I have in other years, but those times I have
been, have been real quality to me, and I can tell you that the girls have
grown up, even since our times with Nanci and the BMO this past fall.
Kirsty is an ever growing young woman and Meggie continues to find and give
precious times with her father.
I'm really just writing to say hi to you all but also to say that I have a
bunch of new dates from Alan and we will be sending them out to those on
the tourlist which includes this address, and placing them on the website.
Further, I have the release information and we will send it out in the same
way, on Nanci's book and the upcoming Other Voices Too. Some, if not all
of the above, perhaps many of you may already know, and I apologize for not
getting it out sooner. Travelling has made that very hard to do.
On the sadder side of things, and this too you may have already discussed,
but Kirsty will not be on the Kerrville Album (well, actually it is already
out) Rod Kennedy told me that there was a 60 cycle hum that they could not
get around, so all of Nanci's stuff could not be used. Kirsty was
seriously bummed. Another sad thing that just happened is that just prior
to this past performance in Lenox, Mass, Nanci had in fact received
Kirsty's fax to arrange to get together timely, but Kirsty thought she had
not. Nanci had even provided for tickets for Kirsty and crew (?) but she
did not go. Nanci had Alan call me, perhaps out of concern, but I can tell
you my little gal was major bummed that she missed seeing her friend.
But..the love and friendship is always there, and isn't that what really
matters.
So watch here, the web site, and your mailbox if you are on the tourlist.
We hope to get the stuff up and out to you by Wednesday night.
All the best,
Rob

Subject: Location of LNGH Cover Photo - Possible locations
Dear Nanci Fans,
Thanks to Michael Wilt for pointing out the following:
Regarding the question about the LNGH cover photo, the album credits
(page 6 of the cd booklet) say:
"Photographed at Monthaven,
special thanks
Hugh Waddell,
Hendersonville, Tennessee"
After a little research, I believe "Monthaven" to be the former Monthaven Bed
and Breakfast at 1154 W. Main Street in Nashville, Tenn. The phone number
given for Monthaven is no longer functioning. Monthaven no longer has a
phone listing. Also, the former Monthaven phone number was the phone number
listed for Mr. Waddell in Hendersonville, Tenn. To confuse things a little,
Mr. Waddell is listed at the same street address but for Hendersonville, Tenn.
Bigfoot.com shows his number disconnected in Nov. 1997. Perhaps some of our
Nanci fans who live in Nashville or nearby could drive by the Nashville
address and see what is there. The large white columns should give the
location away along with a possible ornate gate on the front porch. If you
have a camera available, I would like to have a picture of "Monthaven." On
page 3 of LNGH, Nanci is photographed at night along a street with some unique
street lights. See if Main Street has those street lights. If Nashville is
not the location, then Main Street in Hendersonville, Tenn ,which is just
North - East of Nashville, should be the second best guess as to where
Monthaven is located.
If anyone has any guesses as to the Austin, Texas location of the house that
has white columns with a view of the State Capitol Building where Nanci was
interviewed in her Paramount Theater film, I would appreciate the clues.
Thanks,
Paul Johnston

Subject: San Diego Serenade
Hi!
Is anyone getting together before the concert here in San Diego???
Please let me know--drop an e-mail to me...I'll have my Nancinet
t-shirt on and will be in the 8th row/bay side.
What is an opinion about the best way to get Nanci's autograph? I'm
bringing a CD cover in hopes of that. Just hang around the stage and
ask??? Or wait until the end of the show????
Anyone know what the song list is/will be or a good guess?? Is this
a "themed" tour?
I'm assuming "OVOR II", but it's not even out yet to promote...
Well, I'm happy to get a chance to see her again. I was sure
depressed at the thought of the retirement. I guess "artistes" have
the right to change their mind!
Patty :-)

Subject: Fields of Summer
I have read with interest about some of Nanci's obscure songs. I have
started to listen to some old ones with more care because we finally
have a stereo in the car. On a beautiful day last week it is as if I
heard the songs Flelds of Summer for the first time. It is a powerful
song which confirms the affirnmation of life. Nature and Nanci's gem
combined to form a magnificent portrait. I had never ranked Late NIght
Grand Hotel amongst my very favorite albums, but re-listening to One
Blade Short of A Sharp Edge and Down and Outer (I hope I have the title
right) reaffirmed my belief that she is indeed the best
singer-songwriter around. I am delighted that she is doing so many
concert and I keep hoping to see her in N.Y., Maine, or Boston this
summer. Keep on doing it Nanci- you are the best. Sincerely, Jim
Troiano.

Subject: Patty Larkin
Patty Larkin is playing at the Carrboro, NC ArtsCenter on May 15.
I believe that a number of you are big fans. I know next to
nothing. There's something else I may need to do that night, but I would
appreciate it if someone would try to sell me on why I should forget
about anything else and go see Patty.
I missed Cheryl Wheeler in Raleigh a few weeks ago. If Patty's really that
good, I'd hate to hear about it afterward.
Thanks.
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I am a very big fan of Patty Larkin. Cheryl Wheeler was my first "folk"
concert followed closely by a Patty Larkin concert. Both of them have
remained at the top of my list as far as people I try to see whenever
possible. I have seen Patty perform 7 or 8 times over the last 4 or 5
years and she has never disappointed me. She is wonderful on stage mixing
serious songs with light-hearted songs and a few outrageously funny songs.
Her talents are many but I particularly enjoy watching her play the guitar.
Living in the Boston area, I have many opportunities to see Patty perform.
I try to catch them all at the venues I like best. In my opinion, she gets
a "2-thumbs-up" or a "strong buy recommendation".

Subject: St. Theresa remix
Andrew Layden sent an interesting note about fearing a boogie remix of St.
Theresa. To set the record straight: So far I/O records has remixed Gulf Coast
Highway and LNGHotel. Nanci has indeed given her blessing to a remix of St.
Theresa but I/O president Kyle Utley has yet to decide whether it will be
danceable or not. When the oboe and bassoon remix of LNGH is finished, we will
start on St. Theresa. Anyone who has heard the completed remixes can assure
you that we will handle St. Theresa with the same reverence as the other
tracks. We love Nanci's music and want only to please her and her fans.

Hi all,
I just picked this from the Sandy Denny list. There is a lot mailing on this
list at this moment about Nanci, because of Richard palying on If I had a
hammer and the Sandy song coming on OV2.
BTW WKWTTG is "Who know where the times goes" a song Sandy wrote some 30
years ago and first was released on Fairport Convention's "Unhalfbricking"
from 1968. It is real classic song. Last November I saw a acoustic set of
Fairport, with still one member, who played on that record, and FC reminded
us that Sandy wrote it an age of eighteen and after that played a beautiful
version of this song, But we still miss Sandy after the twenty years she
gone now.
met vriendelijke groeten,
Hans Janssen.

Subject: Other Projects?
Thank you to Roy Rede for his prompt and informative response to my message.
Being a HUGE fan of Nanci, I often get interested in the musicians, writers
and producers who work with her. I'm sure some of my fellow fans do as well.
Perhaps Mr Rede can reassure all the concerned fans by describing some of his
previous work.
Of course, this must be commercially available material that we can easily
get hold of.
We could then form an opinion as to the potential of a Nanci-Remix.
Andrew Layden.

I also got the Seeger tribute album, and think John Gorka's voice

ALL 6 Albums
But if you have to pick one, you probably would want the one Nanci sings on.
Which is Temporary Road. She sings on 4 songs:
The Gypsy Life
I Don't Feel Like A Train
Grand Larceny
Can You Understand My Joy
