Subject: Finally!
After years of enjoying Nanci Griffith but never having seen her perform
(she has not toured in Canada) I have just purchased tickets to see her
in Saratoga Springs as part of the Newport Folk Festival. It is
appropriate that my interest in horse racing would ultimately lead to my
being able to see her perform.
Alison Krause is also on the bill which makes it even better! Does
anyone have the full listing of performers for the August 9 show?

Subject: any more info on Newport Folk Festival tour? -Reply
Michael,
Here's the web address of the Newport home page:
www.newportfolk.com
When I looked at this, I didn't find any info about the touring Newport
festival, (this is the site for the actual Newport Fest in August), but Deb
Hawkins told me that if you send them e-mail using the address given at
this site, they will give you more info about the touring festival.
I hope this helps.

Rosalie Sorrels, the troubadour whose travels inspired Nanci Griffith's
"Ford Econoline", has breast cancer. She is currently recuperating from
surgery. Unfortunately, Rosalie, like many other performers, has no
medical insurance. She was two months from qualifying for Medicare when
diagnosed. Utah Phillips originally planned to join us but had to change
plans. He will be visiting with Rosalie the day of our concert. This
concert is presented to assist Rosalie. Donations will go into her
recovery fund in Idaho, established to help pay her bills. Additional or
separate donations may also be made directly to: Rosalie Sorrel's Recovery
Fund, P.O. Box 1204, Boise, ID 83701.

Subject: getting a hold of OVT?
Hi, all...a relatively new member to the list, but a rabid Nanci fan
in Europe wants to know:
How do I get a hold of a copy of Other Voices Too (Two?), once it is
out? Incidentally, I am starting to review albums for an online
publication once again, and so perhaps a way to get a hold of a promo
department with Nanci's label (Elektra still, right?) would be an
idea...help, anyone?
Also, when will there be more information on the European tour,
specifically, whether she'll actually leave Great Britain, and head
over to the European mainland?
Back to lurking now....

Subject: Kimmie Rhodes
As Hans J. and Ed M. would most certainly agree, you should really give
Kimmie Rhodes a listen. I attended her Houston gig last night, and it
was fantastic, imho better than her February show. Kimmies' energy
level in the very intimate setting of the Mucky Duck was enormous; she
is really tuned in to her audience and responds in a wonderfully
spontaneous way. Did many songs from West Texas Heaven and Jackalopes,
Moons & Angels, plus some new stuff like "If I Could Teach My Chihuahua
To Sing", co-written with and being sung by Joe Ely. Also did some fun
"revival" stuff, trombones and all. It was a terrific evening and if you
get a chance to see her or pick up her CD's, you won't be disappointed.

Subject: Las Vegas Tickets
Like many others I, too, ended up with an unneeded second pair of Nanci
tickets (and I'm waaaay too skinny for my butt to take up an extra seat or
two.) They're for the Las Vegas show at the Hard Rock, which is an excellent
venue. I'm seeking only the flat cost of the tickets; I'll eat the
Ticketmaster charges. E-mail me!

Subject: Another Nanci Concert in California
As Nanci continues her retirement, another new concert has appeared.
This concert is listed on the Ticketmaster Website
http://events.ticketmaster.com, and on the Website of the Galaxy Theatre
(http://www.galaxytheatre.com). Note that tickets are already on-sale.
Wednesday, July 1, 8 PM,
Galaxy Concert Theatre,
3503 S. Harbor Blvd.,
Santa Ana, California
714-957-0600
The Galaxy is not really a theater, but, rather a dinner-oriented
concert venue. All seating is at tables in a large, semi-circular room. In a
rear is a bar area with stools and standing room. The Galaxy is located in
Orange County, California, about 1 mile north of the San Diego Freeway
(I-405), and about 2 miles west of the South Coast Plaza shopping complex
in Costa Mesa.
This concert is a bit pricey. The admission is $45 per person, plus a
2-drink minimum, plus:
You are not guaranteed a seat unless you make reservations for dinner,
and arrive by 7 PM for your dinner. The dinner menu appears on the Website,
and seems about $10-$15 per person. If you do not reserve your dinner, you are
not guaranteed a seat, and may be assigned to standing-room at the bar, if
the tables are all filled by reserved dinner patrons.
Note this concert is the night after the concert at Humphrey's in San Diego.

Hello all..
Emerging from over a year of lurking...
Is anyone on here aware of the Nanci Griffith newsgroup alt.fan.nanci-griffith
This newsgroup is rather dead at the moment. I realize all of you probably
prefer nancinet over a Nanci newsgroup but I have posted a few times on the
newsgroup with no response. Thought some of you might be interesting in
the newsgroup's existence.

Subject: Glasgow Dates
Hi:
The tickets for the Glasgow concerts went on sale over the weekend. The
information on dates and location that Rob S provided a few weeks ago
proved to be spot on (November 26th and 27th at the Armadillo). I bought
2 tickets (Row B) for the Thursday night and 8 tickets for Friday show
(booking agent for friends and family).
The tickets say "An evening with Nanci Griffith and the Blue Moon
Orchestra featuring very special guests". I know who I'm hoping for as a
very special guest but I suppose everybody's dreaming, dreaming just
like me.
