Just wanted to remind folks that Katy Moffatt will be at the
Neighborhood Church in Pasadena on Jan 29. (Info at (626)791-0411)
Also Ray Wylie Hubbard will perform. Katy (if'n ya don't know) is a
wonderful singer and songwriter and she has collaborated many times
with Tom Russell, who also cowrites with Nanci a lot. I keep hoping
her and Nance will team up on something someday.

   From: Jean Keating Pope (sasjmk@unx.sas.com>

Hi everyone!

It's been a long time since I have written to say hello! My life has been a
lot busier since Sept. 13, 1998 when my little angel son was born! He keeps me
on my toes! I just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!

All the best!
Jeannie

ps: Spencer (my baby) loves listening to Nanci too! :-) A new fan is born!

   From: PHHCIO@aol.com

I've lately gotten hooked on a Canadian group in much the same way I got
hooked on the Nanster. I've managed to soak up everything the Rankin Family
has produced and still can't get enough of them. Crisp, clear harmony from
Nova Scotia. My Canadian contact, who has been able to get me the hard to
find Rankins, also turned me on to a superb CD called The Needfire, which is a
compilation of Celtic influenced music from the Canadian Maritimes. It
includes bonus cuts by the Rankins, but also two cuts from a little known
Canadian named Denny Dougherty........ you probably remember him from the
Mamas And Papas.

I've also fallen hard for Richard Shindell. His entire CD "Reunion Hill" is a
must.

At any rate with 1999 upon us, we now approach the new milennium. I wish you
all (especially Nanci....) happiness, good health and good fortune.
Warm regards,
Dave

Subject: NN: beyond digital - the (next) final frontier (fwd)
   From: James Mckelveyss (jmckelve@email.unc.edu>

Remember last year when hardly anyone had heard of CD-R technology for
your own data let alone "burners" you could have in the home. Wonder
what is in store for us this year that we can't even imagine right now.
"It's a great day to be alive," as Darrell Scott would say!

Just the last few weeks have been seeing hospitals transfer medical data
via CD-R in my area. With my whole area done in fiber optics I think '99
is gonna have some interesting twists.

Plus, my Primestar added BBC America (#55) tonight and I got to catch Van
Morrison, Paul Brady, Maura O'Connor, John Martyn & Danny Thompson,
Pete Townsend and a bunch of other incredible acts on Jools Holland's
show. Had to watch a bunch of teenagers so I kept saying Trent Reznor
was in each band and they should pick him out. Had just a great time
with the kids.

Happy New Year,
Jim

Subject: NN: Nanci in a Houston Radio Favorites Poll
   From: "DeYoung, Andy G." (agdeyoun@utmb.edu>

Happy New Year Y'all:

Just a note to say that Houston's KPFT Pacifica Radio did its Top 90
releases of 1998. OV2 came in at #9. Not bad given the competition this
year. Selections played were "Wall of Death" and "Desperados..". Way to go
Nanci! I don't know the rest of the top 8, as I had to pick up my daughter
at the airport from a skiing trip to Colorado, and I might add that she got
off the plane with NO crutches! I suspect Lucinda, Emmy and Lyle are in
that 8 somewhere. Any Houston listeners know?

For Houston/Galveston fans, Jerry Jeff is playing at the 1894 Grand Opera
House on Galveston Saturday night, while just around the corner, Rex Bell
will be doing his annual Townes tribute. Who knows, maybe Jerry Jeff might
put in a cameo! Probably wishful thinking.

   From: Susan Klemme (klemme.susan@mcleodusa.net>

Hi,

I have gone to Elektra's Nanci Griffith site and a portion of the video
"This Heart" is located there. She is singing and strumming the guitar
on the back of a "Jed Clampett" type-truck. Can anyone tell me where to
get a copy of the complete video of this song?
The song is one of my favorites.

Thanks in advance, Susan

Subject: NN: Never Mind
   From: Kristina Plath (steenie102@yahoo.com>

Hi All

I was just listening to a Nanci interview from 1988 called "Idiot's
Delight," and she says that Harlan wrote "Never Mind" for her. I
brought this up at dinner, and my dad disagrees. He thinks that the
line "My baby called you daddy," sounds modified from "your baby
called me daddy." I think that the song definitely has a feminine
voice to it.... then again, maybe it's just Nanci...and that it's not
just the one line that gives away the narrator. Would a man hope that
someone has the urge to write them? Another line my dad has a problem
with is "I could call my brother Milt in Cincinnati and ask him for a
loan.." My dad doesn't think that a sister would ask her brother for a
loan. Hmmm. What do you-all think??

Happy New Year (resolutions, anyone?)

Well, Harlan DID write it. The "liner notes" say so. I would think
he wrote it for a male perspective, but I could be wrong.

Hmmm, Maybe not a sister, but a Brother-in-law is different (g>.

Been there, done that, regretted that (veg>.

Subject: NN: Listen to Nanci
   From: "Hans Janssen" (hjanssen@mail.dotcom.fr>

Hi Y'all,

Now has the time arrived that all the unlucky, who weren't in the Barbican,
couldn't listen to BBC or don't know any one who send them the CDR with the
BBC broadcast, can listen to the concert.

You find it at: http://fly.to/nanci

BTW is there someone who knows somewhere or has somewhere 56MB of webspace
so I can put the concert MPEG3 file or files, when necessary the concert can
be devided in parts, the largest will be 6MB.

Then can you download the files and listen to them in real good quality, on
the computer I don't hear the difference between the CD-player and the
MP3-player.

When someone has the solution mail me privately at: hjansssen@mail.dotcom.fr

met vriendelijke groeten,

Hans Janssen.
