Slightly deceptive wording...Garth covered a Bob Dylan song. But I
don't know if Bob got the nomination for the song, or Garth for the
performance?
Okay, okay, so I nearly had a heart attack when I thought about Dylan
performing Brooks songs, I confess.

Lee doesn't yet have an album out, so lewt's all encourage her. She's
certainly written enough good songs to fill several albums.
Lee grew up in Colorado, studied music in Boston, and now lives in
Nashville with her husband John Mock (pennywhistle on "Hard Times"
OVOR2) and her dog Chief. She is one of the most delightful and kind
people I've ever had the fortune to hang out with.
People who have been on the list a while may recall the claim that Lee
Satterfield is the "real Nanci Griffith" anyway.

I actually thought that's the way it went! After re-reading
the nomination I see now that it was the song that was
nominated. Sorry for the near heart failure.
-Shawn
The nomination reads:
To Make You Feel My Love
Bob Dylan, songwriter (Garth Brooks)
Track from: The Limited Series AND FROM Hope Floats - Music
>From The Motion Picture (Various Artists) [Capitol Records]

Here is a vote for the other David Wilcox. He is more of a blues performer who
achieved significant success here in the Toronto area. He was at his height of
popularity around 20 years ago and still performs locally albeit to smaller
audiences. A tune called Bad Apple is perhaps his signature piece. I, too,
have been tripped up by the other David Wilcox but, as it happens, in the
opposite direction.

There are two David Wilcoxes and the blues guy from Toronto is not the folk
guy from North Carolina mentioned in the first post. Two different guys
and styles of music.

I wouldn't say that Gilliat was "kicked off" the list. If anyone is ever
"kicked off" it will be after serious discussion. That said, it is true that
Gilliat is not currently subscribed...
There are several reasons why someone might be dropped from eiher list. The
most common occurrence is a series of bounced messages, either because your
mailbox is full (happens often on AOL and some .edu servers) or because your
service is interrupted. As was stated in the "welcome to the nanci list"
message that all subscribers receive when added to the list:
If your Nanci mail suddenly stops, you may have been dropped
from the list due to technical difficulties. This typically
happens when your account starts "bouncing" incoming e-mail;
Majordomo (and the list manager) will act to cut delivery of
messages to you in this case. When you find that your account
is working normally again, feel free to resubscribe.
Anyone who has a question about his or her status on the list should feel free
to contact me directly.

A collector's item?
My Last Of The True Believers CD is correct too.
It starts with the title song and ends with
The Wing And The Wheel.
The CD is Philo CD PH-1109, green printing on the
CD surface. The cover says 'Printed In Canada'
at the bottom of the back. I bought this one
3 or 4 years ago (special order from a CD store).
I don't have the LP. I wish I had.

Subject: NN: Is Flyer a true story?
From: Glen Hatchell (ghgator@ibm.net>
Hi all,
Happy New Year. I plugged Flyer into the CD player
after a long period of not hearing it and wondered
that old question of mine again-- is it a true story?
If it is, can you imagine how lucky one would be
to get the seat next to Nanci on a airplane!

During the tour for Flyer Nanci indeed said that it was a true story.

Do Air Force pilots normally fly first class? I can't imagine NG
going any other way. After all, she's a first class person! :-)

Subject: 1998 Grammy Selections
Hi Nnetters:
Its been awhile since I've posted but I thought I'd add my $0.02 worth
regarding the Grammy nominees, especially since I never did get in my
1998 picks (now is as good a time as any). Thanks Mark for posting the
choices but I'd have to say - Go Steve!. I picked up El Corazon in '98
and its a great CD. I just listened to it again all the way thru and
the whole thing is solid. Four tracks ended up on my end of the year
compiliation tape.
Car Wheels also ended up on the end of year tape as did Kate Campbell's
Vision of Plenty, Lyle's double CD, Randy Scrugg's Crown of Jewels and
of course Nanci's OVII. Buddy and Julie Millers '97 CD's also made it -
thanks to the NNetter who recommended them - as did Michelle Malone's
Under the Devil Moon.
All in all not a bad year for music. If I had to guess I expect that
Lucinda or Lyle will win. Either would be fine with me. Besides, I
understand that Mr. Earle helped produce Car Wheels - both El Corazon
and Car Wheels have "The Twangtrust" listed as producers & Steve does
sing on Lucindas CD.
By the way, we saw Cry, Cry Cry in Oakland, New Jersey, not California,
on First Night (New Years Eve). This is the first year we haven't been
up to Boston for First Night in many years. For those who don't know,
First Night is a non-alcoholic, family oriented New Years Eve
celebration that started in Boston about 22 years ago. Its a lot of
fun. One of the guys involved with the Oakland, NJ version apparently
knows Richard, Lucy, and Dar and they have played there in the past.
Anyway they were great. Even if Lucy had a pretty bad cold. They had a
pretty nice size, appreciative crowd. They even played Richards "Are
You Happy Now", one of our two girls fav tunes. Buddy Mondlock and Lynn
Miles opened. Not bad for $20 ($10 for the concert and $10 for a button
which gets you into the other events).
Enough for Now. Happy New Years All!

Wheeler's upcoming CD" Merolla
