Subject: NN: Perspectives
From: Poetmuse@aol.com
First an update: Dad is at home. They released him yesterday afternoon and we
brought him home. But, he has three broken ribs, another one cracked and a 20
pound cast on his leg. The leg is what they had to operate on, three bones
were broken and one was smashed so completely that they had to insert a plate
into his ankle. And this cast is HUGE. It makes my leg tired just looking at
it. I wish I could say he looks good and is in good spirits- but he's not.
It's a little unnerving actually, to me, to see someone who was fairly active,
now be turned into a total invalid. He is also extremely depressed- he thinks
this is all his fault and cannot stop worrying. I've been trying to keep him
comfortable- supplying drinks, food, music...yesterday we watched all the Star
Wars movies and worked our way through all our Star Treks. But I don't know if
it is helping..and quite frankly it's wearing me out a bit..but there is not a
lot a person can do in this situation- so we plunder on. He's having a
reaction to his pain medicine and so has stopped taking that- and until we get
in touch with our doctor to see what the problem is- I suspect he will be
grumpy and ornery- which is more to be expected.
I attempted to go to work yesterday- big HA on that one. It hadn't really hit
me of course...and on my drive in- I don't know, maybe it was the act of
driving, the time alone, listening to Nanci -(not really a good thing to do in
an advanced state of emotionality) I just started balling. Was still crying
when I got to work- my supervisor was very nice about it though, turned me
around and showed me the door and simply said- "go home". But still- a bit
embarrassing to freak out like that- especially when I wasn't expecting it. I
don't even want to worry about having a short paycheck either...
All of this has caused a lot of thinking to occur in that area between my ears
and I haven't liked what I've thunk: it dawns on me that if anything happens
to my parents- I am Alone. With a capital A. I am an only child and we really
don't have any immediate family out here. This frightens me in a way. I am a
shy and hard to get know person- so I have few friends. I will probably never
marry. I am set in my ways and too sensitive for my own good. Maybe my heart
is too high on that backage rack to ever come down- I don't know. As anyone
can tell from any of my postings on the nanci-net I am also given to loving
the wrong person- that, of course, being the person who does not love me back.
The only thing I think I really do well is write- and even that offers no
consolation. Words are just words and they break and disappear pretty much as
anything else does..they still leave me alone.
But it all depends on how you look at it- it all depends on your perspective.
And right now my perspective is to make sure that I thank all the wonderful-
caring- amazing people we have here in our little community- so if Bill Page
indulges me with non-brevity (I could never say anything in 20 words or
less)--I offer my thanks to each and one of you- but especially to a few
notables...
Ed Maier- the first "prayer" to come through- thank you so much.
Mark- "catfan"- always a pleasure to see your name in my box- thank you.
Susan Bond- a wonderful letter- and yes, crisis is a bit like opportunity on
the tail of the dragon- I however, don't know what to make of mine. yet. :)
Kenn Lippert- a touching letter full of grace and beauty- the softer side of
Kenn we hardly get to see- :) I thank you again, sir.
Mike Chesman- who was somehow psychic and sent me the world's most perfect
christmas exchange tape- the songs were really, quite appropiate. Mike- you
can make my christmas tape anytime!
Matt Baker- "a pain shared is a pain lessened." see, matt- I'm taking your
advice...
"Keana Bean"- a person who is so new to us they haven't even sent in their
official how do you do!, yet! This is proof that Nanci brings out the best in
people.
Suzanne Jameson- down in Tuscon- and yes, I felt your light and warmth up
here..
Mark Thompson- an old friend who braved the e-waves to pass on his thoughts- I
thank you too- I had no right to even expect to hear from you- but I am glad I
did.
Donate von Bredow-Gardner- who offered to listen to me anytime- and encouraged
me to write anything and everything I needed to-thank you for the show of
email kindness- you don't know what you ask- just look at this post! how I
ramble!
And there are so many more to thank- but I think Bill is about to pull the
plug on me so to speak- and so I leave you ALL with this- all of your
kindness, your warmth, your love for a complete stranger have meant a mountain
to me and my family, and I wish there was a way to hug each and every one of
you. Buy you a drink- treat you to a spin on a red brick floor- or a show by
our one and only aNGel...
y'all do her proud- and I'm glad to know you.

these videos are long since cancelled i've heard stories that there are
still a few un-claimed copies floating around out there. if any u.k

gems a very loving home, it'd be great to hear from you. i also adopt

I had the same experience with that mystery tape and Amazon. On the
postive side, I ordered a cd of the radio show Nanci and the BMO did on
Etown toward the end of the American "Blue Roses tour" and it has fine
performances of "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Across the Great
Divide," "Not My Way Home" and "Gulf Coast HIghway." It confirmed what
I had thought the time I caught the tour--the on-tour performances were
much better than the original album. It also has performances by
Matthew Ryan, and interviews with both Matt and Nanci.
Anyway, "Connected" had the radio show cd. Maybe I'm wrong, but it
seems to me that these radio shows aren't the same as bootlegging a
concert, since the performers knew they were being taped. I sure some
of you taped this directly from the radio at the time.

Subject: NN: Ebay Lot
From: Doug Kellam (doug.kellam@sympatico.ca>
I was just browsing on Ebay (internet auction house) and came across a double
CD live recording of a concert Nanci performed in San Diego on June 30th of
1998.
I have never seen or heard of this product before. Can any lister
provide me with information on the lot. There are already 8 bids on the
item and the high bid is $31.01.

This is a CD-R recording. In other words, Someone taped the show (probably
on DAT) and transfered it to a CD-Recordable disk. This is what is called
a Bootleg - and of questionable nature (even though I DID bid on it earlier
(g>).
How can you tell if you have a real "Factory" CD or a CD-R? The CD-R's
color is a greenish shade while a regular CD is silver.

Even that isn't completely true anymore a few weeks back I bought the Steve
Earle CD "Come back Woody Guthrie" made from radio broadcast and the only
way that I could see that it was a CDR is that in middle was printed "Mitsui
CD-R".
BTW CDRs are there is green, blue and gold.

Subject: Re: NN: Ebay Lot
From: Mike Chesman (chesman@preferred.com>
Doug and other NN,
I'm was one of the early bidders but I'm now being cautious. CDR's can
be run off as often as the seller wants. A fair market value on most REAL
CD boots is $25 for single CDs and $40 for doubles CDs. (Note that those
prices are for real CD pressings that are usually limited in quantity and
distribution... CDR's are a new wrinkle in the boot market and not many
collectors that I have spoken with are happy with the inflated pricing of
CDR recordings that reflect items that used to be traded among fans). Blank
CDR discs are now available for as little as 39 cents apiece. You figure
the mark-up! Trading tapes was one thing, but paying $40 or more for
someone's CDR recording seems to be taking advantage of the artist's fans.
The item you mentioned is also stated to be an audience recording so don't
expect it to be crystal clear even though it came from a dat tape.
If the person selling this item also owns the DAT tape I guarantee you
will see more and the price will gradually go down in future auctions. I am
surprised at how bold some folks are in marketing clearly illegal items over
such visible means as e-bay.
Mike
