Subject: NN: New music
   From: Bill Page (bpage@scctel.com>

Okay, y'all,

As soon as you can, obtain Cheryl Wheeler's new CD, "Sylvia Hotel." Yes, it
has her trademark comic songs on it. But yes, it also has music that will
break your heart. It's beautiful, it's Cheryl, it's amazing.

While at the megabookstore (where we went for the sole purchase of buying the
new Cheryl Wheeler CD -- it's called "Sylvia Hotel," and it's really good --
we heard a guitarist on the store's speaker system. We were impressed, asked
for information, bought the CD. It's a young man I've never heard of, named
Sam Pacetti. The CD is "Solitary Travel," on the Waterbug label. Nice pickin,
pretty good singin. You like David Rawlings? You'll like Sam Pacetti.

Knowing that Bill never speaks with forked tongue, I went over to the
great big bookstore this morning and bought it. I give it three thumbs
up. It's everything he said it was, and then some including an unlisted
song track at the end (did you find that, Bill?).

The song was written by Charlie Landsborough (from Liverpool, England), so
the singer is probably him. Of course, it might be a cover version by
somebody else, but I don't know who!

Susan

// CDNOW lists the song on an album by Cahal Dunne - After All These Years

I didn't know Charlie Landsborough was from Liverpool and I've lived
here all my life!!!! Must have had my head buried in the sand for too
long.

I thought he was Irish!!

Jenny,

Could the song be Will of the Wind by Kenny Loggins?

Subject: NN: re What COLOUR IS THE WIND
   From: "Carolyn Wheeler" (carolyn@carlywheel.swinternet.co.uk>

Hi
My name is Carolyn from Oxford England I've been on the list for a couple of
years but this is my first post. I think the guy who sings what colour is the
wind is Chalie Landsborough from the c.d.of the same name.

Thanks for all the reviews, my c.d. collection has grown considerably on
recomendations from you all. I've seen Nanci 3 times loved each concert and I
think my favourite c.d. at the moment is Blue roses for the moons. James
Hooker's C.D is really good as was the Christmas tape of his I bought at the
Barbican in November.

Thats all for now
Carolyn

Subject: NN: NG Movie Trivia
   From: Catelaw@aol.com

Super Bowl greetings, all you NNers:

I'm sure this has been mentioned in the years of NN, but I was watching a
video of "The Firm" (Tom Cruise) last weekend and realized they were playing
Nanci's "Never Mind" from LLA in one of the Memphis fern bar scenes, which is
sort of ironic, if you stop and think about it. Nonetheless, I was still
excited to hear her music in a movie. It's towards the end, as I recall.

BTW, Kenn, I LOVED your post about the blue moon lore. Stargazing (for want
of a better term this early in the a.m.) is wonderfully calming and great for
perspective. All that aside, though, there's something that's almost
apocalyptic about the juxtaposition of the Falcons, the Super Bowl, the blue
moon, and the last year before the year 2000...

Cate, we don't even care whether they win or not, we're still in shock, in
Atlanta

>So far
>I've received all positive input on Hooker, but mixed
>(mostly negative) on the Wood & Steel albums.

I'll have to recomend the first Wood & Steel album. Great guitar playing
on all the songs. The second is a lesser effort and the music doesn't flow
as well as the first.

I bought the second for the following reasons:
1. I loved the first and thought the second would be of the same caliber.

2. Because Nanci is on it. Nanci's song is just that, one of her songs w/o
singing - it leaves me wanting to hear her voice.

3. Kenny Loggins & Jim Messina are on it - together. I don't know if this
is an old recording or not, but if it's a new recording, its the first with
them together in many years. Loggins is a staple in my house (wife &
daughter).

4. Victor Wooten also appears on it. This is surprising because Vic is a
Bass player - I guess Taylor needed exposure to their basses. Victor has
won best bass player for a few years now in Bass Player Magazine and is one
of the Flecktones for Bela Fleck. His track is probably the worse - lots
of string buzzing. He even states in the liner notes that he cranked out
the song after being granted a time extension by the publisher. Strangely,
he says he thinks it's one of his best works.

So, Bottom line, Do buy the first, and skip the second unless you must have
Nanci's contribution.

Well John, I couldn't NOT quote back your message. You'll be no fan of my
wife or daughter!(G> They are not only big fans, but personal friends -
but don't worry, I won't let them tell him what you said. :)

The track is called The Island and is mainly Jim Messina - KL is background
vocals which is jus some humming along. It has a Hawiian flair and my wife
says it's an old song.

Jimmy Messina does have a web page somewhere. He's still active in music
but he's also become an artist - you can see his paintings on his website.

Thanks Ron for the info on Jim Messina. I didn't say Kenny Loggins was
untalented, just the least talented of the two. I have a few of his solo
recordings and they are enjoyable affairs, he once did a duet with Steve
Perry, from Journey, and that was rather good. Jim Messina has long been
a favoured artist of mine and the track, "The Island" featured on his
1983 album, "One More Mile".

John "less talented than Kenny Loggins" Graveling.

Subject: NN: Lucinda dates
   From: Cynthia Courtney (cec522@earthlink.net>

Sorry for passing on incorrect information about the Fillmore vs. GAMH
venue - the schedule came directly from Patty Griffin's management, so I
assumed it was correct. (An earlier release _did_ have Lucinda and
Patty at The Fillmore, but I assumed this updated release was more
current)

dear nancites: in addition the the sampling of blue moon songs Ken
provided, the Cowboy Junkies also have a great one, maybe by the same
title, I think from their first record. (It might be called Song for
Elvis) It is an excellent number. Enjoy. (Liz Phair is warming up for
Alanis in town tonight (New Orleans),--nothing against Alanis, but is their
no justice in the world?)

The laserdisc is the Other Voices, Other Rooms video. The catalog number is
not the same as on my laserdisc version so Warner/Electra must have reissued
it. Now if someone would reissue One Fair Summer Evening (in its full
length version not the shortened version on home video.... and maybe they
could reissue both Nanci videos in the DVD format... or how about releasing
a Blue Roses Tour concert with the Crickets and give us an OV2 video to go
with the book.... hey, wouldn't that be fine!

Subject: NN: web update
   From: Mike Chesman (chesman@preferred.com>

With the arrival of January's "blue" moon I've been racing that deadline to
make some major changes to my web site. 80 percent of the old 24bit images
have been replaced with scans from a 36 bit flatbed scanner. Eventually all
the scans will be replaced with newer versions. I've also added about a
dozen new items where Nanci appears on other folks albums and have
rearranged that entire list so that the most recent items appear first.
That saves you time from scrolling down the list to find the latest project
with Nanci's involvement. Check out a new feature called "The Attic" where
some odds n' ends are displayed.

So tonight after you've gazed out on that Blue Moon take a gaze at the Blue
Roses Page http://pages.preferred.com/~chesman/ngmain.html

Mike

p.s. Unfortunately the counter seems to have stopped working so I'll never
know how many of you visit the site tonight. Murphy's Law I guess.
