// Tonight we talk about Melanie, Nanci in Austin, and Nanci on
// the BBC.
// This may be the last digest for a few days, as we'll be headed
// "south of everything" for the weekend. May take the laptop, but

Subject: NN: Melanie (Safka)
From: Glen Hatchell (ghgator@ibm.net>
Melanie is alive and doing well here in the
Bay area (Tampa Bay area, that is). She
had a birthday last week, played at her
coffee house in Tarpon Springs last
Friday and Saturday night (appropriately
named Melanie's) and coincidentally, I
saw someone that I'm pretty sure was her
sitting above and behind the stage when Lucinda
played here in St Pete a few months back.
Her daughters are also on the verge and
if my failing memoiry serves me, I
believe they are calling themselves Safka.
I would prefer to hear Nanci doing Brand New Key.
Can you imagine the emphasis she would give when
she hits "brand new pair of roller skates"

If you've seen 'Boogie Nights' then you might have a different take on this
song. BTW Heather Grahm who played 'Rollergirl' is going to take over the
'Emma Peel' side kick role in the new Austin Powers.
After seeing BG and 'Studio 54', which both had protagonists who were 18 in
1978, as I was, being a punk rock math geek was actually a pretty good way
to spend the years between 1978-1884. In Boogie nights the main character
even comes form my hometown of Torrance, California.

Subject: NN: new performance dates
From: steve odom (datalink@OnlineToday.Com>
I'd like to know from any Austonians if there IS a Bass Music Hall. I am
from the DFW metroplex and am secretly wishing that maybe the Austin date is
an error and she's actually going to be at the new Bass Performance Hall in
Ft. Worth. Any help from Austin would be appreciated. It would be a dream
to see her in Ft Worth. Thank Yew!

Hello Cary!
I saw Nanci at the Bass Music Hall on the University of Texas (Austin) campus
almost exactly 10 years ago. The concert hall is in walking distance from the
football stadium and the library.
Best wishes,
Ron Hennessy

Here's the question though- anyone know sale price and when the tickets go on
sale?
I would love to get away from it all and take a little trip to Austin... since
Nanci does not seem to want to come to Phoenix this time around...
but I'm probably dreaming....

Subject: NN: Nanci Concert on TV in UK
From: "Alex Butler" (butler@wintermute.co.uk>
For UK fans
There is an hour-long concert on BBC 2 TV on Friday 19th February at 11.20
p.m. It was recorded at the Armadillo Concert Hall in November 1998 as part of
her Other Voices,Too tour.
It is a pity that our American friends will not see this show. I wonder if
she will be recording a commercial video of the "Voices" project, for us
all to see?

Subject: NN: May 24th Austin Nanci Gig Info
From: toverton@tpoint.net
Hi Nanci Netters!
I can't believe it! Nanci coming back through my town of Austin!!
I was afraid I was going to have to travel to distant lands to see
her perform again. I called to get information about tickets for the
concert so that I could give everyone the scoop. Here is the info:
Nanci will be performing with the Austin Symphony in Bass
Concert Hall on May 24th. It will be all Nanci tunes arranged to be
accompanied by the symphony. Tickets will go on sale next week,
but they aren't sure who will be selling them, UT or the Austin
Symphony.
When they decide that, then I will tell you exactly who to call. I'm
debating whether to buy a small block of tickets in the front center
just for all of us Nanci Netters. If any of you are interested in that,
then let me know. I will get the tickets for you at cost. Let me know
if anyone is interested.
Tom

May 24th is a Monday (sigh), but it is Austin, my favorite getaway.
Think I should play hooky? (Was it ever really in question?)
