   From: "David W. Gibson" (David_W_Gibson@msn.com>

Hello all,
For those friends out in the madness in the San Diego area, Nanci will be
performing at Humphreys on Wednesday, July 21st. Tickets go on sale
Saturday March 27th at Humphreys and through Ticketmaster (619) 220-TIXS.
Hmmm... That's an anniversary isn't it?

Maybe some of us would like to get together before or after the show? I
sure would.

   From: Kati Rose (katirose@ez2.net>

Wow tix went on sale for the Nanci Concert in San Diego yesterday and no
one here mentioned they got tix. I can't be the only one who got tix for
the concert!! I had to stand in line for almost two hours at Ticketmaster...
most were there to get George Strait tix I believe. FINALLY after waiting in
line forever I got my tix...2nd Row center! The best tix I've ever had for
Nanci. This is my fourth Nanci Concert and everytime I see her...I've
gotten closer and closer. I can't believe I have to wait until July 21 for the
concert...but I know it'll be WELL WORTH the wait.

My boyfriend and my best friend are going with me. It's going to be a
blast. My boyfriend was going to go with me last year...but his car died
and we weren't able to go, so my mom and I went. He's never seen Nanci in
concert and he's not what I can call a "Nanci Fan"...he hasn't really
listened to her much...but he's a music lover and I know he'll really enjoy
the concert. My best friend went with me to the Los Angeles concert a
couple years ago...and even tho Nanci isn't her "TYPE" of music (she
prefers Hole and Siouxsie and the Banshees)...she just LOVES Nanci. And
she's been talking about going to another Nanci concert ever since. When I
told her Nanci was going to be playing SD...she nearly freaked! I told her
the shows in SD were A LOT better than in LA. No offense to those in LA,
but everyone at the LA show were just TOO darn somber (I was almost afraid
to clap at the show)!!! At the SD shows...people just have a great
time...I just LOVE it! But what can I say, San Diego is perfect...it's
Heaven! =D I just can't wait to go! Perhaps I'll be driving everyone in
my new "OLD CAR"...a 1958 baby blue Chevy Delray...which I've named Nanci
because of the color. Oh if anyone happens to know where to find stickers
of a blue rose...please let me know! I want to put one on the window! =)

Well, I guess that's all the blabbering I'm gonna do for now gonna run (not
walk) back to lurkdom! Take care all!

KatiRose (Waitin' for that San Diego Serenade)

P.S.

I also got tix for Mary Chapin Carpenter 4th row center. WOOHOO gonna be
quite a summer! Unfortunately I was all tapped out and couldn't afford the
tix to The B-52's...one of my OLD favorites! I'm NOT complainin' tho!
Ciaomein all!!

Hi all,
The tickets for Nanci's July 21st show in San Diego are listed at $27.00.
However, it has been my experience that if you also buy the dinner package,
you get better seats. That ups the ante a bit. I paid $132.00 (ouch!) last
year for 3rd row seats and dinner package at Humphreys for Nanci's show.
That of course, didn't include the price of the roses... but that's another
story.

Humphrey's is a restaurant and hotel (Half Moon Inn) on the waterfront of
San Diego Bay. It is an outdoor venue and only seats about 3000, but the
acoustics are simply fabulous. The best I've ever enjoyed in this town.
Showtimes are in the evenings (~7pm) and the one big drawback is a firmly
enforced 10:00pm closing time. Nanci's encores were cut short last year!

Tis no bother at all,

Dave "She said I was sweet (big blush)" Gibson

I've heard rumors about Nanci possibly being booked at City Stages in
Birmingham, but I haven't been able to confirm this. Any truth to the
rumor? And an FYI for everyone else, if you haven't been to City Stages
before, it is well worth the trip to Alabama. If you go, make sure you
have breakfast at the Original Pancake House in Five Points...the pecan
pancakes are well worth it!!!

   From: "David Steere" (DSTEERE@sil.si.edu>

I haven't felt like this since first hearing OVOR. Tom Russell's THE
MAN FROM GOD KNOWS WHERE is magical and extraordinary. A history
lesson of an immigrant song cycle. Not just for admirers of Tom, Iris
DeMent, Dolores Keane, Dave Van Ronk and others...but for any fan of
wonderful writing (Tom, how could you write so many wonderful
interrelated songs about your history?) and singing. I hope everyone
on the NanciNet hears it. But set aside 75 minutes, undisturbed, to
get wonderfully lost in this recording. Nanci, Nanci, where were you?
Your voice would have fit in so perfectly. To tempt further those
still on the fence, imagine hearing Iris DeMent singing Wayfaring
Stranger...twice! To quote Tom in his oft-repeated (and varied)
musical mantra:

other ideas for good folk songs to sing at the wedding.
Thanks for your help and for loving Nanci,

Susan,
Can't help with the sheet music, but what a nice choice "Little Love
Affairs" is. I love it and the whole disc is probably my favorite.
Okay, I'll admit it - It was my first Nanci.
Another song that I think would be meaningful is "The River is Wide".
James Taylor does a version of this. I'm sure most all know these lyrics
that never fail to move me...

The river is wide, I can't cross over
And neither have I wings to fly
Build me a boat, that can carry two
And both shall ride, my love and I

hope you have a great wedding

Subject: NN: Take it from me
   From: LDay67@aol.com

Dear fellow LucKy fans--

Lucy Kaplanskys latest release, Ten Year Night, explores the worth of living
an examined life. Often written from a third-person perspective, the
introspective lyrics are conveyed in Lucys smooth, strong voice, and the
sound is superbly complementary, with slightly more electricity than her
previous work. Overall, the songs complete a trilogy of survival, similar to
a phoenix rising from the flames, powerfully putting out the fires on the tips
of her wings when she ventures too closely toward the fire again.

"Ten Year Night," the opening cut, provides a rich introduction as it narrates
the passionate longevity between a couple who had probably planned on being
together just once. With the predominance of folk songs about unrequited
love, this love song is refreshing; it never lapses into trite expressions,
and it testifies to the possibility of long-lasting, reciprocal passion. The
lyrics directly address a lover, and Lucy seductively sings, "I have and hold
this love for you, before this ten-year night is through, Im telling you,
take it from me."

Suitable for slow dancing, "Promise Me" explores the hope and the ability of a
couple to withstand long distances, as Lucy confidently, yet plaintively
sings, "Promise me, youll wait for me, And kiss me one more time, Give me all
your lonely nights, Ill keep them here with mine." Similarly, "Just You
Tonight" describes a deep level of affection and commitment that cant be
found on "a road map that tells me Ive come home, lying here in the quiet
next to you." The road can take its tolls, but apparently not with someone
who knows the way home without a map.

Lucys love songs do not always convey such positive experiences. The intense
passion of her love songs is paralleled by the bitterness in songs about
deception and betrayal. Several songs paint frustrated vignettes of people
who seem to be stuck in despair, as in "End of the Day": "You found out what
you wanted, well it isnt what you need, and you curse this train youre
riding. You curse it, but you never leave. Well, theres a way." The
bitterness of the lyrics is nearly hidden in Lucys delivery, cleverly
cloaking a kiss-off message.

With its catchy, upbeat tempo and Lucys usually compassionate voice, "Turn
the Lights Back On" is the best example of the survival theme, as seen in the
lyrics, "I trusted you, you said I was supposed to, but you couldnt
understand me; you couldnt even see your hand before your face, much less me,
so you told me all this stuff about you, pretended it was about me, and Id
have been better off with nothing." She reminds her target in the chorus,
"That trusting girl you knew is dead and gone."

Occasional bitterness is overcome by a sense of perseverance and independence,
as in "Five in the Morning." Instead of constantly looking over her shoulder
at the destructive past, the lyrical persona is forward-thinking as the chorus
repeats: "Shes gonna hit the ground running from this dead-end street, saved
by the power of her own two feet, remembering a song from long ago, its
around and round, its the way things go." Reconciliation is part of
recovery, as seen in the song about the death of a father, "For Once in Your
Life," as she sings, "Theres so much that I wanted that you could never give;
I just never got that I was stronger than you," followed shortly by an implied
request for forgiveness: "Id tell you that Im sorry, but I know what you
would say, because I think that you forgave me long ago."

After yearning for more solo Lucy Kaplansky after her marvelous work with Dar
Williams and Richard Shindell, I recommend Ten Year Night with all of my
heart, flesh, and bone. These songs are stories of survival, proving again
that Lucy Kaplansky can produce independent, original work.

Thanks for listening--
Lisa Day

It's Terri Hendrix's "Wilory Farm" it is on CRS. Yesterday Terri mailed me

released, but I was too late it was already in the store.

Terri is a singer/songwriter from San Marcos and this is her second CD.
