Subject: NN: Are you out there?
From: TinMarmot@aol.com
I suppose I should be posting to the Dar-list with the above subject title
but I feel more at home here. That is the reason for writing. After six
years and several Nanci concerts, it came time to pack up and move away from
the Twin Cities. This past winter I headed west, ending up " where the
Truckee runs through " in Reno, NV. As a concert buff, I knew there would
be plenty of events to attend in California but was unsure of what to expect
locally. So far it has been a pleasant surprise. Cheryl Wheeler and Cliff
Eberhardt performed down in Carson City earlier this month and I have my
ticket for John Prine when he comes to town on the 31st. Then in june it is
time to head back down to Carson City to see Lucy K. and John Gorka on a
double bill. Life is good.
Anyway, the whole purpose of this message is to ask if there are any other
NanciNetters in the local area. If you are attending any upcoming shows I
would certainly like to say hello!

I'm hoping, since the digest has been on hiatus for a week, that Julie will
extend the deadline...most folks on the NanciNet are on the digest, and did not
get the original of this message until tonight.

Well, I was just sitting down to post the results tonight, and I'm glad,
Bill, that you let me know about this. Of course I'll wait a bit more so
those on the digest can play if they want to. How about I extend the
deadline to this Sunday (5/23) at 9:00 p.m., Pacific Standard Time (U.S.).
It is a really great tape of un-released OVOR video footage that is well
worth a try at the contest to have!
Take care all,
Julie.

Subject: NN: "Try the Love" chords
From: tsanch@lsumc.edu (Sanchez, Tanya)
Hello,
My boyfriend Clint is interested in learning to play "Try the Love," the
Pat Mclaughlin song on OVOR II. Does anyone have the chords for that
one? If so, send me an email. It would be much appreciated.
On another note, in 10 days I am leaving New Orleans, where I have lived
my entire life, to move to Salt Lake City. We were listening to "Banks
of the Ponchartrain" the other day and already it sounds different.
Nanci has a great sense of place, something you really appreciate when
she is singing about your hometown.
Tanya, soon to "Know what it means to miss New Orleans" Sanchez

From: "David W. Gibson" (David_W_Gibson@msn.com>
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to invite all the NanciNetters attending Nanci's San Diego show
at Humphrey's to a get together before the show. We'll be meeting at about
6:45 (the show starts at 7:30) at the bar in Humphrey's. Julie Anne will be
bringing some surprise Nanci-related goodies for those brave souls who come
out and meet us and I'll be trying to design some special "San Diego Nanci
Netter " buttons for us to wear at the show. Also, we're planning on a
special gift for Herself that includes a personal note from each of us. If
you'd like to join us, please contact me ( David_W_Gibson@msn.com ) or Julie
Anne at julie-anne@home.com for more details.
Hope to see you there in just 63 more short days,
Dave "I'm quoteless with anticipation" Gibson

Don't reinvent the wheel!

Subject: NN: Old Friends "Too"?
From: KSandersn@aol.com
Regarding Nanci's Dec. 3rd Torrence, CA date, I found some info I didn't
remember seeing posted here before, so I thought I'd pass it along:
December 3, 1999 - El Camino College, Torrence CA (Emmylou, Mary Chapin
Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Terry Allen)
It's nice to see that Chapin will be there. I've always dreamed of seeing her
and Nanci on a double bill. If this show turns out to be half as good as Old
Friends, you west coasters are in for quite a treat!

Subject: NN: Pittsburg
From: Halesbop@aol.com
With posts about San Diego, Austin and even December dates popping up
around here, I can't believe there has been no discussion of Nanci's concert
at South Park near Pittsburgh next Friday. Toni from Columbus posted a query
for info awhile back, but I didn't see any replies to that. However, she did
find out more about the date, shared it with me, and I think this definitely
listworthy stuff.
Maybe someone from that area can elaborate, but we've learned that
this concert is part of a summer series of free shows held at South Park.
Nanci is scheduled to perform for three hours (!) starting at around 8 pm on
May 28. I'm guessing there will be a break in there, but this is what the
fellow I spoke with today said. It's a huge grassy park with concessions (no
alcohol sold, but coolers are allowed), plenty of parking. Bring blankets to
sit on, there are no seats or cover. Apparently as many as 10,000 people are
expected and he suggested arriving a couple of hours early. As far as
directions, I'm not sure, but it's on the map and there's a Holiday Inn in
nearby Bethel Park. I made reservations there today.
Here's a phone # you can call for info on this during business hours:
(412) 835-4810. Ask for Caroline or Joanne.
Again, I'm surprised this event is taking place with little fanfare
on NN. Seems almost too good to be true to me. Connie and I are definitely
making the trip from Michigan, Toni will be there from Columbus, probably
Kathy from Toledo. Who else? This has the potential for a nice NN get
together.
Cinci whetted my appetite...Pittsburg here we come!!!

Park is a about as muc a mystery to me as to someone from Idao, but I will
try and find more. I guess I am still a bit stung from Nanci's
cancellation last year, expecting te same.

greeetings nanci-nuts..
well, I'm getting really excited about my approaching
flight into the fair city of musical delights..
but I have just a few questions :)
1) Hows the weather in Austin this time a year?
More specifically.. this weekend? :)
2) Do I need to bring a nice dress for the symphony
or will a skirt or some such reasonable counterpart
make do? I mean after all.. it is texas.... :)
3) Looks like we'll be doing a day trip to San Antonio
as well.. anything specific we should see there?
4) Where is the best place for the unintiated to grab an ice cold shiner block,
anyhoo?
Counting the hours....

In TorrAnce. with an A, Like in that Jack Nicholson film, the one with the
line "Its Okay he saw it on the T.V.". Its in the area where I spent my
juvenile deliquency. Boy oh Boy, At my old Community College no less. I
went there for two years before transfering to Cal. so its an alma mahler of
mine. Its the place I decided to go into mathematics. My first mentor, Dr.
Young was a Berkeley chemist, and he really wanted me to follow in his
footsteps, of course after the incident with the potassum chlorate, he felt
that Math would be a better course of study. He's the one who first told me
that 'entropy always increased a little faster whenever I'm around" I moved
not too far from there a few years back. The Black Velvet Elvis painting in
the "Brew.net" Coffee House across the street is on loan from me. It really
is. I've posted about it before. Hopefully they won't take it down before
December. Elvis is visible from the ECC parking lot. They've had it up
there for three years, so its a safe bet.I will provide road maps for the
local Christmas light displays. Some of you know that Torrance has some of
the best. It just doesn't get any better than this. Well actually it might.
but now that Dana Plato is gone, some things shall just never be.

Subject: Nanci at the Ryman
From: VickiStein@aol.com
Just wanted to say I appreciated Kelly's review/synopsis of the Old Friends
Concert at the Ryman. "I would give anything" to see that group of artists
together...if only life wasn't in the way and I didn't live 12 hours from
Nashville!
I've followed Nanci since 1988 ~ Austin City Limits. As a lyricist, in my
humble opinion, Nanci is at par on the 19th hole with Elvis Costello.
Personal experience and the perception of what occurs around us dictates
those sounds and words and feelings that move us into transcendence ~ I was
just cruising down Lake Michigan Drive (I live in Grand Rapids) and "These
days my life is an open book, missing pages I cannot seem to find..."
envelopes me as I am thinking about "stuff"... How wonderful that writers
like Nanci have the gift of creating material that expresses what we are
experiencing.
I'm just rambling. "It's A Hard Life Wherever You Go" and "If Wishes Were
Changes" helped me work through a divorce several years ago (I played those
songs relentlessly), following "Changing Horses in the Middle of a Stream
(Gets You Old)...." (Fogelberg). I remain bemused at the irony.
And now, I am literally living "Going Back To Georgia..." (well, the town is
Cincinnati) and loving it!...and am planning a trip to Ireland!
Thanks for all of the musings I read here...Peace...

I am going out on a bit of a branch here, but...since I commented on "Going
Back to Georgia" earlier, I have one thought about the harmony of Nanci and
Adam...it wets the palette in the way that jerk salmon served with a golden
pineapple salsa served with braised spare ribs of beef in a vegetable ragout
would entice....just (literally) food for thought...you'd never think that
they would meld, but they do, tastefully....and wonderfully...just my
opinion. Ciao (pardon the pun)
