Subject: Austin Nanci Concert Reception
From: Thomas (onesmoothsailor@yahoo.com>
Dear Nanci Netters!
The woman in charge of organizing the Austin Symphony events sent me an
invitation to forward to the Nanci
Net. All NN'ers going to the Austin concert are invited to a big reception
afterwards at the art gallery. The following is the text of that invitation.
I look forward to seeing you there! Make sure to call them and reserve your
spot!

Hi All,
Just a reminder that the Austin NanciNet contingent (and assorted
out-of-towners) will meet at my house in Austin on Sunday (5PM) for food,
drink, fun and a surprise or two. If you haven't RSVPd, and would like to
come, drop me a line and I'll send you the map-o-rama.

Subject: NN: There's an Austin beyond these woods....
From: poetmuse@prodigy.net
greetings nanci-nuts..
I tell you, if it wasn't for this trip and my flight out of this 'burb tomorrow
I'd pretty much just curl up into the fetal position and cry. I've just had one
of the worst days...in fact, I think I'll cry anyway, but later..in the tub or
something, after it really hits me.
The only thing that has kept me afloat in a sea of despair is Austin Austin
Austin and Nanci Nanci Nanci.
Just one more proof that Nanci is a reason to be. I want to thank all the
wonderful NanciNetters out there who have been so very kind and generous to me-
whether it has been by answering my noisy annoying questions or just lending an
ear or even just telling me what not to miss...
so thanks y'all...!!!
*(and by y'all I mean- Mike"not so unknown" Cogliandro, Paul Greer, Shelly "the
party's at my house" Brisbin, Marilyn Rife, Steve "I still owe this guy a beer"
Makarsky, Sara "full of good ideas" Huizinga...and anyone else I've
forgotten....)**
You guys are the best and make me remember why I'm still on the planet rather
than 'pushin up daisies' as it were..
big cheesy cyber hug {{{{hug}}}}

Subject: NN: John Prine
From: klinnert@pol.org (Jackie A. Klinnert)
I just saw John Prine last Saturday night in Fargo, ND. It was in a
restored movie theater that seats about 850 people. I wish Nanci would
perform there. Sorry this post doesn't have more to say about Nanci,
but she hasn't performed close to where we live, for several years.
It was our 3rd time seeing him there, and he gave a wonderful
performance as always. He and the band play so well together, its like
they know exactly what the others are going to do. Jason Wilber does a
fantastic job playing, and singing harmony with John (which can't be
easy). Almost didn't recognize Jason from 2 years ago - he cut all his
hair off!
John looks good, appears to have quit smoking. He sang for two hours
straight, with no break. I already knew about his cancer, thanks to
someone on the NanciNet, but he told the audience pretty much the same
as what he posted at the OhBoy website. Sorry I didn't get a set list
written down, but I would have to say my favorite song they did was
"Lake Marie". Does anyone know if there is a John Prine list going?
He's also supposed to be in the movie "Pushing Tin". I think he plays
Billy Bob Thornton's older brother. Billy Bob wears a John Prine
baseball cap backwards, in the movie.

T'a'int no mystery to us. We recognized those Colordo folks from frequent
visits. We even know the secret 800 number to call should our
worchesterhire sauce get mixed with our embalming fluid.
Still waiting to read about NG and the BMO returning to SLC and getting
ready for Telluride Bluegrass 26. In 1992 TBF offered Kelly's dream and
more. NG, MCC, Emmylou and Shawn on stage at the same time. Cool.
Cheers,

Subject: NN: Chili parlor bar
From: tsanch@lsumc.edu (Sanchez, Tanya)
Hi Christina,
I've only been to Austin once passing through to go rock climbing at
Enchanted Rock, but I can give you one pointer about a nice place to
have a Shiner Bock. I basically got around Austin based on song lyrics
(heavy on the Nanci.) It actually worked! Taking a cue from Guy Clark,
Clint and I decided to try out the "Chile Parlor Bar." We drank Mad Dog
Margaritas and ate some of the best chile I've ever had. It is located
downtown near the capital. Now I'm a bit fuzzy here as it has been over
a year since I was out there, but there is also a few microbreweries in
Austin that have fantastic beer. One is downtown near the river, I
can't remember the name of it, but it was a cool place. Not as cool as
the "Chile Parlor Bar" though.
Now I have Guy Clark and Nanci singing through my head. Not a bad way
to start the day! Enjoy Austin. It is a beautiful town.

Subject: NN: eBay controversy
From: John Edward Graveling (kai21@dial.pipex.com>
There is a large feature in this months ICE magazine about the goings on
on the internet with regard the eBay auctions. I've never even looked
into the site, let alone bid for anything, so I'll just give you a
snippet from the article.
"A thousand dollars for a Nirvana European CD single? But what follows
are some of the more surprising prices realized for CD's. This is just a
small sampling."
$610 Nanci Griffith - AAA Radio live sampler. A four track promotional CD
from 1995. The seller, one Mike Thurston of Barre, Vermont said, "I
couldn't believe what I was seeing in the bid column for this one,
completists who have eveything will pay way more than things are actually
worth, just to get the items. This was really a case of two Nanci
Griffith fans duking it out"

Subject: NN: Now this is nice...
From: Ed Maier (eddie@flash.net>
Hi all,
I just downloaded (no, I don't work for RealAudio) the RealJukebox beta
version free from RealAudio. You can use it to play your regular CDs
on your computer's CD player, and it displays the album title, track
title, and genre. You can also use it to record the CD tracks directly
to your hard drive in a compressed format, the quality of which impressed
me more than all the other gadgets that came with it. The system
requirements are kind of tight, though. Again, it's free.
The minimum requirements for using RealJukebox beta are:
.Win 95 w/service pack 1, Win 98 or Win NT 4.0 with
Service Pack 4
.Intel. Pentium. processor 200MHz MMX, or Cyrix.
6x86MX PR233, or AMD. K5 PR-200
.32MB of RAM
.200MB of free hard-disk space
.Full Duplex Sound card and speakers
.16-bit color video card
.Internet connection and web browser (IE3 or later,
Netscape 3.x or later)
.RealPlayer G2 or RealPlayer Plus G2 (can be
downloaded with RealJukebox)
The url is http://www.real.com/welcome/realjukebox/
Enjoy,

From: kenn lippert (lippert@fyi.net>
Hey all,
I have thrown together a really quick and dirty web page for you
out-of-towners to hopefully help you find your way to the *FREE* Nanci
Grifftih and the BMO concert on May 28th at the South Park Main Stage
(amphitheater with grass seats).
It is at www.fyi.net/~lippert/SouthPark.html
kenn "Now if Kate would just visit..." lippert
ps Sorry if this is showing up multiple times, something seems to be stuck
// The reason it seemed "stuck" was the word "FREE" in caps -- the spam
// filter is set to block messages with that word...[BP]

Forgot to mention that if you don't have web access, or can't see the maps,
etc, just email me and I will send them to you. I didn't want to clog up
the NanciNet with kilobytes of maps if I didn't need to.

Subject: NN: intro, storms, and a question
From: "Tracy Applebaum" (poohbear512@hotmail.com>
Hi from a fellow nancinut! I'm new to the list, and I was thrilled to find
such a forum of like-minded (obsessed?) people. And all this time I thought
I was the only one who liked her music this much! My name is Tracy and I
just graduated from high school-so glad to be done. My only complaint is
that I'll be in when nanci is in Texas and in Texas when she's in Virginia.
Oh well, guess I'll just have to rely on y'all to let me know how the shows
are this year. Anyway, I have a couple questions I want to toss out there.
First, a specific nusiance question--does anyone have the chords to STORMS
figured out? I couldn't find it posted on the web chord pages, and I'm not
quite good enough yet to learn by ear. If anyone can help, please email me
directly. The address is: poohbear512@hotmail.com
Secondly, a thread that may have already been done-sorry if it has. But,
one thing I like to do is keep kind of a notebook of quotes from songs that
you can "live by". I was just wondering, if you had to pick one line from a
nanci song that was kind of a "motto for life" kind of thing,, what would it
be? Mine changes all the time, but it's usually "You'll never learn to fish
on a borrowed line, you'll never learn to write if you're walkin' around
cryin'" from DADDY SAID. Sometimes when I'm going through a hard time, it
becomes, "When this winter's over you're gonna walk knee deep in clover and
your heart will round the corner you will feel brand new." If you want to
send these either to me privately or to the list I can add them up and
compile kind of a "NanciNet Quotes to Live By" Or if it's already been done
or is just a dumb idea, sorry to waste your time and list space with it.
Enough rambling for now,
Tracy
