Subject: NN: Sessions at West 54th
   From: "Fernando Issao Ninomiya" (fernandoissao@uol.com.br>

Hi everybody,

I just watched a rerun of Sessions of West 54th with Richard Thompson
performing. In the last song, Nanci's appearence reminded me about
how I came to know her: About six months ago, my TV was turned on
and this very same programme. I wasn't paying attention, just enjoying
the songs while working. Suddenly I heard this sweet voice and stopped
my work to hear this amazing woman. The program ended and I went to
bed wondering who that person was. Early in the morning I started
searching in the net for some information and got the sessions web site.
Since I didn't know who Richard was (just know his face from the show),
I started entering all the links with hope to recognize him. In this search, I
entered Billy Brag's link hoping to be the guy. For my surprise, the pircture
of that unknown amazing woman was in my screen.
Knowing her name, I skiped my classes to go to the music store to
get some CDs. I didn't find any!!! (I guess few people know her here in
Brazil). I got a credit card just to order her albums from amazon.
In a later web search, I found this discussion list. I'm feeling like an
intruder, but I realy felt sharing this memories.
I'm wondering: How did you guys started listening to Nanci Griffith?

PS: sorry for my english spelling, grammar, etc.

Fernando

Hi! Sorry to make you repeat stuff that has probably been posted before,
but I read someone (Nancy's??) Central Park Concert Review, and when I read
that Nanci said she HAD SURVIVED (instead of was fighting) thyroid cancer, I
was intrigued. Lst I heard, from the FAQ when I subscribed, she was
undergoing radiation therapy and thought her prognosis was good. Does anyone
have some 411 on whethr she has been officially pronounced "cured" or "a
survivor" or anything?

Go Nanci,

Tracy

Dear Tracy,

I think that anyone who's survived any stage of cancer feels like a survivor.
It's great that Nanci is a cancer survivor! We are dealing with a recurrence
of my mom's breast cancer right now--she's half-way through chemo and
Herceptin treatments--and so I know that if you asked her, she'd say today
unequivocally that yes, she IS a survivor! I am really proud of Nanci for
what she's been through and for what she continues to do. I'm also very proud
of my Mom for putting on those little hats that women wear who've lost their
hair, for going in for her treatments every Wednesday, and for doing her
best. It's not an easy road and she's pretty fatigued a lot of the time, but
she's making it through.

I'd love to read more about the Central Park show. Did anyone stay for Chris
Isaak's section of the show? I am quite fond of his music.

Sabrina in Mpls.

Hi, all,
Lurker and NG fan. I think Nanci said she was a survivor of Breast
Cancer. She's still fighting the thyroid cancer. At least, that's the way
I heard it. Anybody know for sure?

Hi all,

My heart goes out to all who have experienced the terrible disease of
cancer. My friend, Lindsay is only thirteen and has one of the most rare
cases of cancer. She has Embryonic cancer, it's only been diagnosed 3
times ever. She's at Saint Judes Children's Research Center in
Tennessee. I have been praying for her to get well, or at least be in no
pin, and good news! She just had surgery, and she's starting to walk
around the hallways. We're all rooting for her, even though the odds for
her survival are against us.

                                Love all,
                                Amber Lorien (age 14)

Greetings everyone.
Can anyone give me info on the wolftrap in VA? We were able to get tickets
for the show at the end of June, but we have never been there? Any lodging
recommendations? How about nice to have info about the venue? Much
appreciated!

Subject: RE: NN: Nanci and Jackson Browne
   From: David Lidz (dlidz@legstrat.com>

I believe it was April 25th of last year when I was delighted to sit in the
very front row at the Voters for Choice concert at the very small Lincoln
Theater here in Washington. The lineup for the night was

- Graham Nash
- Rodney Crowell
- Jackson Browne
- Nanci Griffith

Which is worth mentioning, because the concert was not just about choice, but
more generally about women's (and girls') rights, so I think before we rush off
to boycott Jackson Browne, we ought to consider his participation with this
organization, and measure that against what Mr. Lippert characterized as his
accuser's flakiness. And I think the point has been made in this forum before
that if we are going to judge an artist based upon their personal actions, or
even talk about their personal lives, we ought to be *!#$@@% sure we've got the
facts and the record straight. I think throwing out rumors of vile behavior
without verification is a pretty petty thing...

NOT a male perspective, just my two cents...

Subject: NN: The Other Side Of The Pond
   From: John Edward Graveling (kai21@dial.pipex.com>

Tomorrow sees me attend my first live music since returning from the
Katefest week a couple of weeks ago. The Dixie Chicks are making their UK
debuts, having sold out two nights at a 1,800 venue in West London. It
will give me a good excuse to wear my Little Feat "Dixie Chicken"
t-shirt, as it's where they took their name from, mind I've had it ten
years or more so I could be a tight fit in it!!!!!!

Monday sees Beth Nielsen Chapman making her first UK appearance, and I
have front row seats, so am looking forward to it immensly.

Five weeks and I'm back in Tennessee and looking forward to more great
musical experiences.

Kim Richey mentioned to me in Nashville that she was coming to the UK to
support Raul Malo on his first solo gigs, they are now scheduled for the
last week in October and then Mary Chapin Carpenter is playing a week
long series at the same London Theatre. So there are some interesting
things to see on this side of the pond at long last.

John "keep music live" Graveling.
