Subject: NN: Nanci's 45 Cap

From: "Julie" (julie-anne@home.com>
Well, I've seen four pictures Anne scanned of the birthday hat she finished
for Nanci and it looks beautiful. It's violet blue with big giant Mickey
Mouse ears and a 45 spinning high above the ears - Buddy Holly & the
Crickets singing Peggy Sue (MCA label). Anne put colorful beads on the wire
or whatever the recorded is mounted on, with a couple of beads above the
record and a yellow star bead on top. Nanci's name is embroidered in gold
floss on the back. After listening to a playback of one of her concerts we
figured out she wanted the ears left on - and they are huge. It's very
funny and colorful and she'll probably laugh her a** off. Someone erased
part of the label next to the Crickets and wrote Nanci's name on the record,
too. Maybe someone can scan the pictures onto their web page for all to
see. And whoever presents it to her can hopefully get a picture of her
actually wearing it. Sounds like an album cover shot to me . . .
Great job to all involved!
Take care,
Julie.

Hello everybody,
this message is a general rambling, just to say hi now i'm back at my
usual adress, and has no real nanci content, except to say that i
spotted philip donnelly, who needs no introduction as THE guitarist....
Ok, so it was at the cambridge folk fest last weekend....which
incidentally was my first EVER meeting with actual nanci netters. hi
paul, emily, dave....Anyway, Phil was playing guitar with hal ketchum
(carrying hal's tradition of nicking nanci's guitarists, he used to work
with brian wood) on his set, he had on one of the shirts and some
extreemly cool glasses. emily and i stood down front waving our nanci
shirts in his face, with no result.
the rest of the fest was great too....spotted a few other nanci shirts
and people kept coming up to me and sayinghow great nanci was....of
course....
i also have a few questions....since we've kind of loosely been talking
abvout the religious side of kate campbell's rosaryville lyrics, i'd
like to return to ST teresa of avila and ask some questions about the
lyrics. i knopw that the subject was run into the ground back in 96, but
i've beenm sort of researching St Teresa and looking a bit more colsely
and not being a catholic, some of them stick me:
'and fare to fare....
of the tears we cannot shed'
what does that mean???
oh and by the way, i just bought some vinyl.....'out of the darkness' a
compilation against nuclear warfare and a weavers one...just to dispell
the myth that i'm a sad child living only in my own times...
jenny*, who loves 45s....

Hi all,
If you happen to be looking through the bargain or used CD bins
anywhere and you come across a 1986 copy of *Trio* by Linda Ronstadt,
Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton, BUY IT. Then put it on your portable
CD player, pour yourself an early morning cup of coffee, move to the
back porch, sit back, relax, and listen. It doesn't get much better
than this.
What a beautiful day this will be,
Ed

Nobody's mentioned it yet here (at least I don't think so) and I've given
Kim Richey's new one enough spins now to heartily recommend it. Sure it's not
as rootsy/country sounding as the first two, but even as she veers toward
light rock Kim has produced a real keeper with 'Glimmer'. Her voice seems to
be getting better and better and I'm impressed with the way she does
different things with it from track to track. And a good batch of tracks they
are. The cd has been getting lots of positive reviews in a variety of
publications. I look for this one to bring her the wider notoriety she
deserves, much like the latest records for Lucinda and Kelly Willis have done
for them.
Another one that I've been enjoying more and more this summer is Kevin
Welch's 'Beneath My Wheels'. People already familiar with him know he's a
wonderful songwriter. This one really rocks in places, and I'd say if you
like John Hiatt but don't know Kevin, you're likely to appreciate him. IMO,
this cd is better than anything Hiatt's done in years.
Both of these discs will probably wind up on my year-end top Ten List.

Tanya Marie,
Can't help with the lost 45s etc, but I know the feeling of
lost records. When I was in college in the early 70s, I had
headed home (to Virginia) for Christmas. I piled my stereo (Hi-Fi) in
the VW along with a pile of my most necessary listen to at home
records. Left behind were about 125 other records, all
very important to me, especially my prized possesion -- an
original 78 of the Carter Family's Wildwood Flower. It had been
my fathers.
Upon my return to Kansas and entering the old house we
rented behind the Taco Bell in Pittsburg, Kansas, I noticed
a cold breeze in the house. I found the back door swinging
open and knew we'd been robbed. My records were gone.
I've managed to replace many of them over the years, but
other's are history. A close friend in Kansas City found
quite a few in assorted KC locations.
So good luck with the replacements. Hey, antique malls and
consignment places stock great assorments of 45s from the 70s
and 80s. I've not noticed much lately from the 60s, though,
and seldom if any from the 50s in this region (again KC).

Beatles Fans,
Sorry if I stroked you the wrong way. I only meant that from my experience
they play the same songs too often. This goes for other artists, too.
There are a lot of good ol' songs out there that rarely get played
including Beatle songs like those from "Rubber Soul".
For example, you hear Herman's Hermits singing "Silhoettes on the Shade",
but you don't hear the original, which is much better in my opinion. Also,
you'll hear Ringo Starr singing "You're Sixteen", but you won't hear Johnny
Burnett's original. Maybe this is just because of the age of the DJ's out
there.

From: bateman@freenet.edmonton.ab.ca
Did anyone see Nanci's concert at the Edmonton Folk Festival on Sunday,
August 8?
I wasn't able to go and am really interested in hearing how it
went (especially as this was her first concert in Canada since 1990 and
I've never seen her perform live).
There was very little coverage of her in the Edmonton papers
aside from a comment that she was accompanied at times by Tom Russell on
vocals and Andrew Hardin on guitar. And the BMO of course. There was a
brief quote about "Wall of Death": "I take this song to my heart. I'm a
survivor of breast cancer and now four years later, thyroid cancer. If
you're not taking risks in life, you're not living" Amen!
Any details of this concert would be very welcome.

Hey friends --
I admit it. I've been involved in some pretty strange stuff via the
madness I know to be this mailing list. And I *always* love every byte!
So it is with great pleasure I offer the chance for everyone to see the
overly discussed Mickey Mouse 45 cap Anne created. This is only one
view, doesn't really do it justice, but I think it'll suffice for
illustration. I believe Steve has worked out a method by which to
present it to Nanci. I think it's going to be a lot of fun to hear of
her reaction.
