Hey y'all,

I've received several messages in the past couple of days
from folks who think I must have kicked them off the list
because they haven't received any messages in several days.

I haven't gotten any, either, because there haven't been many!
Don't know if it's the weather or the flooding or the general
quiet before the storm of the new release. So anyway, this
note is simply to let everyone know that to the best of my
knowledge, the list is still up and active (yes, I paid the
bill this month!).

Subject: NN: Nanci at the Beacon in N.Y.
   Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2001 08:51:23 -0400
   From: "James Troiano" (James_Troiano@umit.maine.edu>

Hi folks: I am hopeful that the N.Y. date for Miss Nanci is for real. That
is one we might actually be able to get to. Nanci used to sing in Boston
often, but not for many a year. That would be our first choice.
Nevertheless, I have attempted to find out if the Beacon date is for real
and each time met with frustration. The Beacon website does not list it
and Ticketmaster's machine told me it would connect me with a live
operator, but I was disconnected. Does anyone know if that date is
definite, how the Beacon is for a venue, and what does one do to get
tickets. Is there anybody out there who can help? Thank you so very
kindly. Jim

Maybe one of the old timers on the list can help me out,
but wasn't Mark Erelli once a member of this list? I think
there was someone by that name who was going to college in Maine
in 95 or 96.

I don't know about that, but at a recent concert, Mark Erelli said that he went
to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

It sounds like Nanci has found a small but good niche for herself in the world
of practical politics. In this case, she got to make a quick plug for the
landmine treaty to the country's highest official face-to-face, where it maybe,
just maybe could have some positive effect.

If she sticks to that kind of thing and doesn't cut loose with public letters
in moments of anger and that sort of thing, she'll be doing herself and her
fans a favor.

As I recall, she did perform "It's a Hard Life," which seemed very appropriate
for the occasion of the Speaker's Irish breakfast event. Doing "One Blade Shy"
- her one overtly partisan song - in that context would have just been silly.

That's a cute line about, "Are we at war with Ottawa?" :)

But I don't think "one blade shy of a sharp edge" really applies to our
legitimate President.

I mean, the guy lost the election but got into the White House anyway. How
dumb can he be?

Bruce,

This fan welcomes and loves Nanci Griffith for all her expressions, whether she
wants to cut loose with a charming story, a song, a witty remark, a gangly
dance, a smile and a wink, a humanistic political plea, and, yes, even a
scathing calls-em-as-she-sees-em dressing down.

She's a fascinating person and a remarkable woman with a spirit that I hope
continues to cut loose all over the place.

We have some U.K. residents on just about every list I'm on, so this web site
might prove helpful in straightening out any failures to communicate. I found
it interesting to just read through the definitions:
