I see from Nanci's website (nancigriffith.com) that she will be taping an
Austin City Limits show on Aug. 13th to be aired at a later date. I didn't
think anyone had mentioned that here yet - do we still have any list members
with ACL connections? Rachel - do you keep up with those goings on these
days? I know those tickets are extremely hard to get except by good luck (
you have to be at the right place at the right time), but anyone who happens
to get an extra ticket can just feel free to pass it on to me! I won't let
it go to waste. : )

Did I miss something? Did HE sign the Ottawa Treaty? 'Cause it looks like
Nanci is returning to Austin on 8/13/01 for the taping of Austin City Limits
to be shown on T.V. later in the year. Go figure!

Cheers y'all,

Don't know if it's definite but I sure hope so; while a 5 hour drive to a
beautiful place is fun, a subway ride to hear one of my favorite singers is
just as valid ;-)

I saw Bonnie Raitt at the Beacon is which is a wonderful old venue on the
Upper West Side (emphasis on old...the roof was leaking onto the stage when
I
saw Bonnie). Good acoustics, sight lines, a preferred venue of people like
the Allman Brothers & Ani DiFranco. Far superior to the Hammerstein
Ballroom,
where I saw Nanci last time through with the Crickets.

just my opinion...

This morning I wake up and immediately thought "this is the first Father's
day without my father". The first thing I had to do, is listen to the song
Shawn Kimbro wrote for his father. It's a very special song. Shawn posted
the lyrics for "Sunday Morning Rain" and an MP3 for download at:
http://www.geocities.com/trailzzone/rain.html

On this day I will remember the wonderful father that he is was, and how
very lucky I was to be his daughter.

Happy Father's Day to my husband Bill and ALL the fathers amongst our
Friends Out In The Madness.

Me too, my first Father's Day without my Father.

Talking of Shawn Kimbro, I see that Patty Loveless is returning to her
roots, bluegrass, and naming her new cd after Shawn's band, Mountain
Soul:-)

This is my second Father's Day without my Dad, and I thought it would be
easier but I find I'm much more emotional and sad than I thought I'd be.
I'm not listening to the radio because every song is a Father's Day Song. I
did re-read Shawn's lyrics (thanks for reminding me Sue).

It does get easier but it's still hard.

Happy Father's Day to all.

entertaining today under a hot white tent at a Fair
songs about coal mining and floods, biscuits, even doughnuts, and mineral
springs
keep the show moving, play faster, harder, louder
keep the time, watch the crowd, eye contact (Nanci taught)
no dead-air, plug the radio, the CD, the next band
meet and greet, thank the sound man, keep moving
no time to pause, no time for rain, not this Sunday, not on Father's Day
susan knows and John, and Sue, and eventually all of us learn
it gets easier, but sometimes
in the still of the evening
it rains.

It is also my first Father's Day since my dad's death, and sadly, my mother
is dying in the hospital from advanced cancer and kidney failure. It is
unbelievable to me that we are taking this journey to the end of her life
only nine months after my dad died. They had divorced in 1961 but remained
fast friends, and it is just ironic that they would die so close together in

time, both at age 65, and both of cancer.

I pray for all of our fathers and mothers and for all of us daughters and
sons, remembering the love that binds us all together, and remembering the
music, too. Both of my parents were wonderful musicians and shared their
love of music with us and with their grandchildren. My mom's voice singing a

cappella is my very first memory; she taught me "Pretty Saro" and
"Shenandoah," which are still two of my favorite songs of all time. Both are

traditional ballads and even though we grew up in Vermont, I can imagine
that
they are sung everywhere in America as lullabies. I know we've talked about
"Shenandoah" here before. I would love to hear Nanci sing it, and "Pretty
Saro" too.

Thanks for listening.

This was my sons' first Father's day without their Dad, not that he held
great store by them sending cards etc-he said it was an American over
commercialized thing { sorry you guys}. It was poignant however for me also.
I had already experienced the first wedding anniversary on 5th June, a month
after his death. Life goes on in a very different and lonely way.

Subject: NN: Gillian & Dave - no NG content

   From: t t (tastho@yahoo.com>

I know several of you NNetters are also fans of Gill &
Dave. I heard a review of the new Gillian/Dave record
this weekend from a someone who'd scored an advance (I
think the revised release date is July 31). He swears
it's the best record he's heard in years. Because I
haven't heard it yet (though even if I had I'd be
unashamedly biased towards loving it) and because I
hate to build expectations to such an extent that
they're hard to meet, I thought about not posting, but
because the record was spoken SO highly of, I couldn't
contain myself. "Revelator", is the leadoff track.
There's a two-part epic called "April 14th/Ruination
Day" that's stretched out over the 5th and 8th track,
with a couple other tunes in between, including a
great live version of "I Wanna Play That Rock-n-Roll".
The final song, "I Dream A Highway", is...hold on to
your hats...14 minutes 46 seconds long. Sometimes a
3-year wait between records doesn't turn out to be so bad.
