Must say I'm surprised to find Neil Finn in this company. Not that he
doesn't belong, but he's not well known in the US, and I don't recall him
ever mentioned on this list, except by me. Neil, a New Zealander, was leader
of Crowded House, and all most people know them for is "Don't Dream It's
Over." "Private Universe" appeared on the last Crowded House album, Together
Alone. It's a beautiful song from a lush, poignant album. Neil Finn's two
solo releases, Try Whistling This and One Nil, are excellent.

Here in Austin, we're lucky to have KGSR, where I've heard quite a bit of
Neil Finn and other great-but-not-necessarily-commercial artists. I had
given up listening to commercial radio before I moved here.

No arguments here. Finn writes the most gorgeous pop songs around, and not
many people have had his consistency over a career. Try Whistling This made
my NN Top Ten the year it was released, and One All -- the American release
of One Nil -- will be high on my list this year. (Currently battling it out
with Kasey Chambers. Not a pretty sight.)

Well I've been listening to Diane Zeigler's 'Paintbrush'
all day and can't imagine a more inspired Christmas
gift. New to me - and I love it all - from Prickly Pine to
The Well and beyond - and now she's on Gene Shay's
show this week, and on my December pond @

Any other Zigfans out there?

Or how about UK bass player Mo Foster's
new album 'Time to Think', also featured on
December pond

I'll try and get a signed copy for the first person
who can tell me which Nanci Griffith album Mo
played on.

1. Monuments- Kate Campbell
2. 1000 Kisses- Patty Griffin
3. Winter Marquee- Nanci Griffith
4. Home- Dixie Chicks
5. Jerusalem - Steve Earle
6. Come Away With Me - Norah Jones

Re-release:
I Ain't Living Long Like This- Rodney Crowell

I bought only six 2002 release albums this year. The "pickins"
seemed especially shallow. The six I did buy, however, were
great.

I bought four 2002 releases this year. The only one that I'm sure I'll still
be playing in five years is...

1. Beck - Sea Change. Melodic, orchestral, psychedelic, moody:
singer/songwriter music filtered through "I Am the Walrus".

Oops, I forgot a very deserving release.

Make that 5, and this is a strong #2:

2. George Harrison, Brainwashed. McCartney's music should be this good.
