Dear All, I've been intrigued by the recent correspondence regarding Nanci's
recent concerts. I would like, if possible to add my own contribution.
Living and working in Scotland I have been privileged to see Nanci all over
the UK, in Ireland and in her native Texas. Since 1988 I have seen Nanci
approximately 173 times and can honestly say I have yet to see a bad show.
Now I can imagine people may be astonished by that and may think that my
critical faculties have gone out the window. However, I can (hand on heart)
say that she has always maintained a high and professional level of
excellence.
Over the last 6 months I have seen Nanci in Belfast, Glasgow and London as
part of the Concerts for a Landmine Free World. Moreover, just recently I
travelled over to Fort Worth to see the four shows with the Fort Worth
Symphony Orchestra. On each occasion Nanci was in top form. Indeed, from
past experience, the only thing likely to affect her is hay fever. Even then
she always seems to take it in her stride.
As I love live music, for the last 30 years I have been lucky to see a wide
range of bands from The Who, Led Zep through the punk era (Clash, Jam) to
new wave, new romantics and beyond. My particular favourites are
singer/songwriters and in the last 6-9 months, as well as Nanci, I've seen
Ryan Adams, Roger McGuinn, Lucy Kaplansky, Alice Peacock, U2, The Cash
Brothers, Lambchop, The Strokes, The Hives etc.
I'm sorry if this is seen as boasting: it's not. What I wanted to do was
illustrate that I enjoy a wide range of music and that there is some
objective basis for my comments. I genuinely believe, based on the canon of
her work, from the first album to Clock Without Hands, that Nanci is the
best singer/songwriter of her generation worthy of consideration with the
many other great American songwriters.
Hyperbole aside, I hope Nanci continues to inspire people and that we will
still be discussing and debating her music for years to come.
On a separate note, the new live album may be called "Winter Marquee". She
also wanted to pass on to NN's that her current favourite band is/are The
Cash Brothers. Finally, can I say how much I enjoyed Fort Worth and the
people who were all friendly and welcoming. Apart from seeing Nanci there
was a big arts festival with lots of great music and food. It also gave me
the opportunity to finally see some Blue Bonnets in the flesh.
Regards,
Howard Young.

Listening to WDVX online here at work, i hear Nanci singing Townes'
"Towers" song - where is this recorded?
What a delightful surprise.

Subject: NN: Doug Dugger?

Sorry for another off topic post, but there's so much knowledge
here... Does anymore know anything about a guy named Doug Dugger?
He played with T. Texas Tyler in the 50's and I heard a rumor that he
is being inducted to the Country Music Legends Hall of Fame. He
lives here in Missoula. Seems to have a lot of connections to old
Country music people, but I can't find much info on him.
Thanks!

(1) Anyone have any advance word on Kimmie Rhodes'
new album, "Love Me Like a Song"? The previous
album "Rich From The Journey" was so sonically
different from her previous work I don't know what
to expect the new one to sound like.
(2) The new Flatlanders CD "Now Again" will be out
soon and it is great (I got my hands on an advance
copy). Not sure if it's worth the thirty-year wait
between albums, and it doesn't capture the sheer
mastery of their live show, but get the new CD-
even if you have to pay the alligator.
