Hey Folks,
Below I've posted some further information about the upcoming benefit
concert from a local source. Please note that this source says tickets go
on sale Monday... is that correct???.
I'm going to do my best to get great seats for this show so please don't
everybody hog the front row until I get my tickets ;-)
I know a lot of you have seen Nanci dozens of times but I've only seen
three shows from three tours. Still with over 300 compact discs, albums,
45s, cassettes, videostape, etc. featuring Nanci Griffith I think I qualify
as one of her top fans. A bit of an obsessive collector, yes but a true
believer in her talent both as a performer and a musical artist.
My dream come true would be to meet the lady and say thanks for all the
years of fine music. Anyone care to email me directly and share how you few
lucky folks get your hands on stage passes?

Mike

Greetings from a lurker...

I'm doing a neurology inservice May 28th PM and an ER night shift May
27-28 (bummer), but I'd love to go. Does anyone from the Madison, WI
area plan pulling a LOOONG drive the night of the 28th?

Oh, well...guess I'll just have to buy the DVD. But I AM going to see
Nanci at Big Top Chautaqua later this summer...I can't wait! =)

Simple. The special guests are Buddy Holly, Kate Wolf,
Townes van Zant, Harlen Howard, the songwriter Nanci
Griffith, and many other worthies. She's going to
channel them all. Other bandmembers will channel Bill
Munroe, Roy Huskey, Janis Joplin, and Duke Ellington
in Griffith's most ambitious project to date,
tentatively titled "Ghosts in the Music."

Me, I'll have to wait for Telluride.

Tom:

I did listen to all the mp3's on Kimmie's website and ordered the new
album from there. Sounds much more like WEST TEXAS HEAVEN (gorgeous) than
RICH FROM THE JOURNEY (disappointing). On your second question, the new
issue of NO DEPRESSION has a long article on the Flatlanders.

Howard,

I'm glad you mentioned the other artists, too. I was
beginning to wonder about the very thin line between
"stalker" and "Super Fan". Just kiddding, of course.
I saw the Ft. Worth Thursday evening show and found
it pretty close to flawless.

I have their "Elevation" cd. I like alot of what I hear, but
their vocals are (IMHO) too much like Newgrass Revival circa
Flynn/Fleck, which is a worn out sound to me. My understanding
is that these guys are considered a jam band, so I'm missing out
on most of the fun by not seeing them live. They do play some
around here, but I haven't had a chance to catch up to them.

Yes....they were awesome! I thought they were a little "raw" or
"unpolished," but the evening was like watching a combination of
"The Grateful Dead" and "Newgrass Revival." All were great
musicians and they played well together. An added treat was
getting to see Tim O'Brien open for them and play with them
later for several songs.
