a spectacular set of shows coming up, NOW. Guy Clark,
John Hiatt, Lyle Lovett, and Joe Ely all sit on a
stage with one guitar apiece and weave some moving
magic.

I saw the first Santa Rosa show last night. I'm still
awed this morning. I went there hoping for a small bit
of inspiration in this insane Bush/Rumsfeld induced
state of moronanity my country finds itself in, and
left with a renewed sense that there is still a lot of
beauty in this world, and at least 4 real heroes left.
Hearing Guy Clark imbue the words, "Dark enough to
smell the moon" with electrifying wonder brought me to
tears. Hearing Joe Ely say "Townes is always with us",
then launching into an Elyesque version of "Tecumseh
Valley" was almost worth the 85 bucks for admission.
Hearing John Hiatt do this song that captured a man's
relationship with his dog exactly actually sent a real
chill down my spine. No kidding. And Lyle Lovett was
priceless. I can't begin to relay the wit and presence
he brought to the stage, not to mention his music.

I'm reminded of an old argument we had on the NN about
how women singer/songwriters are so much better at
eliciting real emotion than the men. This show proved
otherwise to me.

See one of these shows if you can get a ticket and the
chance.
