Mel Gibson Announces "PASSION" Tour
Associated Press (AP), LOS ANGELES, April 1: Actor
Mel Gibson, fresh from the overwhelming success of his
movie The Passion of The Christ has just announced the
production of a 12 song CD followed by a 15 city
stadium tour. The CD which will be called "Down From
The Cross - Songs From The Passion," will be
completely financed by Gibson and produced by T-Bone
Burnett with distribution on the Electra Records label.
The Passion of the Christ, which Gibson directs, has
grossed over 76 million dollars internationally. It
stars James Caviezel as Christ during the last 12
hours of his life and Monica Bellucci as Mary
Magdalene. The $25 million production was shot in the
Aramaic language of the time with subtitles.
"I'm not a preacher, and I'm not a pastor," the
47-year-old director-actor said. "But I really feel my
career is leading me to continue with this project.
The Holy Ghost was working through me on this film,
and it will no doubt direct me through the CD and
tour. I want to continue, through God's will, my
evangelical effort through music."
Artists contributing to the CD include Madonna,
Prince, Ralph Stanley, Ollabelle, Barry White, Alison
Krauss The White Stripes, and Tom Jones. Folk music
priestess Nanci Griffith will perform the title track.
"It's been a while since I've taken on a religious
project," says Griffith, "but I've always known that
there's a light beyond these woods and I believe the
time is right."
Griffith, who has lent her name to multiple charities
including the Vietnam Veterans of America foundation
also commented that she is happy that a portion of
ticket proceeds will go toward missionary work in
Israel, Pakistan, and France.
The tour, dubbed "Down From the Cross" will kick off
in Atlanta in August and feature artists from the CD
as well as those from the recently successful "Down
> From the Mountain" tour.
"I also plan to keep a microphone backstage," says
Gibson, "and interject spiritual references and
excerpts from the ten commandments as the Holy Ghost
moves me."
"This will be a tour for everyone," he continues,
"Muslims, Jews, even Atheists may find conversion and
salvation through this music."
The CD begins production this week and is expected to
be in stores by late June. Tickets for the concert
tour go on sale next month.

It has also been reported from an music business insider who wished to
remain anonymous, that some of the songs to be covered on the album/tour
include:
"Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
"I Don't Know How to Love Him" (from JC Superstar)
"Losing My Religion"
"Imagine"
"I Say a Little Prayer"
and the big ensemble closer will be
"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"
I'm sure the tour won't come through Pittsburgh, this down isn't just
off
the beaten musical track, there ain't no way to get here at all.

Subject: NN: Help required - Nanci guitar tab
From: Matt Bloomfield [mailto:mail@mattbloomfield.co.uk]

Hi,
A while ago I asked if anyone knew what happened to the almost complete
collection of Nanci Griffith guitar tabs that used to be hosted at
safs.bangor.ac.uk. No one responded and subsequent searches for the
site
proved fruitless. Although there are still some good sources of tab,
none
of them have as many of Nanci's songs as this site used to.
I have spent some time trawling through the Wayback Machine
(http://www.archive.org/web/web.php), this is a website which, over the
years, has archived numerous other websites. It looks like most, if
not all
of the pages, may be recoverable from the archive.
I would like to recover and host these pages, but I have not been able
to
get in touch with the original creator. I have tried emailing the
Bangor.ac.uk address on the pages in the archive, but although they
don't
bounce. I do not get a reply.
Was Davey Jones ever a member of this list? Does anyone have up-to-date
contact details for him? I would love to get permission to host the
pages
and make all this work accessible again.
If anyone can help in contacting Mr Jones, or you know of a current url
for
his collection of tabs, please contact me off list.
Thanks,
Matt Bloomfield

On Sunday nights the BBC local radio stations converge into one in the
East
and the smaller regions all get more or less the same program. Since
December last year we've been lucky enough to have around three hours
of Big
George and what this guy doesn't know about the music industry and the
people in it probably isn't worth knowing. The idea of his show is
just to
play the best of the best, and in the three hours that he's on you'll
get
every possible music genre you can imagine and many you couldn't. For
example, one show had a feature about the chap who composed most of the
incidental music and scores for the Hanna Barbara cartoons! It is one
of
the most interesting and eclectic shows on the radio.
Last night there was a short section on country music, and the first
song
that was played was fairly typical (IMHO) of Nashville country pop. I
don't
mean that in a bad way, but you know the kind of thing I mean...
When that record finished, he said "That's one kind of country music,
here's
another kind, sung by a little pixie of a singer". We were then
treated to
the full version, including the introduction, of LATFAD.
After a brief reminiscence of how Woolworths stores used to smell, he
said,
"That was Nanci Griffith, lovely and sparkling in the way she presents
herself and music. A delight to hear her."
A delight indeed and a nice surprise to boot. Unfortunately, the beeb
don't
seem to broadcast this show online so there's no URL. But for more
info on
Big George (who some may recognise as the composer of the Have I Got
News
For You theme tune):
http://www.biggeorge.co.uk/index.html
Some regions vary slightly in the times, but if you're in one of the
following BBC Local Radio areas you should be able to pickup the show
between 6pm and 9pm Sunday evenings. Well worth tuning in for because
you
never know what you might hear.
East:
15. Radio Norfolk
16. Radio Suffolk
17. BBC Essex
18. Three Counties Radio
19. Radio Northampton
20. Radio Cambridgeshire
