At a show this week at the Bluebird Cafe, Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss each
played a Nanci song. A fan on the Kathy Mattea list reported:
(She [Suzy] opened with Outbound Plane, telling everyone it was a
(Nanci Griffith tune. Kathy followed suit with a NG tune we all know and
(love, Love at the Five and Dime. They joked that Nanci
(had bought each of them their first homes.

Jackson Browne will play at the Chatfield Nature Preserve on June 12.
Botanic Gardens lands Browne show
Byrne, Marsalis also on this season's bill
By Mark Brown, Rocky Mountain News

The Denver Botanic Gardens will kick off what could be its biggest concert
season with the biggest name the series has ever landed: Jackson Browne, who
will co-headline the kickoff show with Nanci Griffith.
This season also finds the series expanding beyond the garden grounds; that
June 12 Browne concert will be held at the Chatfield Nature Preserve, part
of the garden's attractions. The rest of the season - including shows from
Indigo Girls, David Byrne, Bruce Hornsby, John Hiatt and Robert Cray - will
be at the gardens' traditional location, at East Ninth Avenue and York
Street.
"We thought this would be a great place for a bluegrass-type festival. We
have all that open space, and we can use it to our fullest abilities,"
gardens spokeswoman Holly Jones says of the Browne show at Chatfield.
Tickets for the annual series go on sale to garden members April 12 and to
the general public May 10. The series always boosts membership; all shows
sold out last year.

Subject: NN: Mel and Nanci and Kate

After reading Shawn's note, Nature forbid I should start a flame war over my
appalled feelings about Nanci's and T.Bone's involvement with Mel's
evangelical fervor and the "artistic creations" resulting from it. I guess
everyone will have their own opinions. So, I won't say more.
On a less controversial and more joyfully artistic note, the great Kate
Rusby has a new DVD out, LIVE FROM LEEDS. The UK version will NOT be
playable on U.S. DVD players. The US version will be out in May or early
June from Compass Records. Both the gentleman at Compass I talked to and
Neil at Fish Records in the UK are raving about the quality of this
dvd--both the production/performances and the technical aspects.

In a subsequent story, the New York Times revealed
that Barry White would be resurrected from the dead
for his contribution to the CD.

For what it is.
The Seeds of Shame
As seeds of death are sown
The roots of hate are grown
And mothers cry
As children die
For a cause they've never known
The drops of bloody rain
Stain the soil with pain
And men of pride
Try to hide
Their everlasting shame
Heartbreak cries of shattered lives
Go unrecognised
As once again
The sins of men
Create unseeing eyes
We have no choice our leaders say
Someone has to pay
If weakness rules
And courage cools
We lose the American way
But you cannot shoot a dream
Or bomb a people free
Ideas will abide
Resist the killing tide
Shaming you and me
And so the children weep
And cry themselves to sleep
But we shut our eyes
And criticise
The company they keep
So more seeds germinate in hate
Broken limbs and hearts create
A spirit of defiance
In unholy alliance
Against the super state.
"Suffer little children"
Shames the hearts of men
For when innocence appears
We wring out bitter tears
And crucify Him once again.
