Has Nanci done any music videos besides Goodnight, New York? I thought I
saw something mentioned about a Late Night Grande Hotel video
somewhere... If there are other videos, are they online anywhere?

Don't know of anything online, but she has done several videos,
including:
One Fair Summer Evening - VHS - mostly the same as the CD.
A live performance (with guests) of material from Other Voices,
Other Rooms - VHS.
Ditto Other Voices, Too - VHS.
Winter Marquee - DVD - with four songs not on the CD.
An individual video for each of: Daddy Said, I Don't Wanna Talk About
Love, Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness, and probably several others
that I'm not aware of.
Then there are the NanciNet-distributed Poet In My Window series of VHS
tapes that contain MANY of her appearances on US, UK, and Irish
television. Don't know if there is anyone currently on NanciNet who can
make copies of those.
I'm probably missing a lot of others. Anyone have more detailed
information?

Both of these were also issued on LaserDisc.

Also a CMT style video for "This Heart."

There's at least one Chieftains concert on video with several songs from
Nanci. Also the "Red Hot & Country" concert with one song from Nanci.

Hello Sarah,
A good start for Nanci videos, that have not been released as consumer
product, is the compilations "Poet In My Television" that Julie Broyles
assembled some years ago for Nancinetters. These include some promo
items and several TV appearances. I would be glad to run you off a copy
of volume 1 and 2. You'd just need to reimburse me for shipping costs
after you receive the tapes. I wouldn't be able to get the items to you
before mid-september as I'm bogged down with some major tasks for my job
until September 8th. Should no one else step forward to make you copies
sooner, feel free to get back in touch. It will be fun to re-view these
items and I've been planning to dub these tapes onto DVD-R so that they
don't deteriorate in my collection.

Hi Sarah and welcome to our little family. Being 15, I wonder if you've
heard some of the other artists that I, and surely others on this list,
have known and loved over the years. Joni Mitchell and James Taylor
were my 2 favorites "when I was your age". Wow, I don't think I've ever
actually said those words before!
They are still favorites along with Emmylou Harris (I listened to "White
Shoes" in the shower today) and Neil Young (am listening to "Tonight's
the Night" right now - man, is it severe!).
What other artists do you like besides Nanci (listened to "Dustbowl
Symphony" on the way home from work Friday)?
'kay bye
Holly

Two 'Bright Spots" in recent posts must be those of Mary Margaret &
Sarah of 15 years.
How wonderful to hear from Mary, may she grace us with her presence more
often. Did you know that Mary co-wrote what is one of my all time Nanci
favourites?. Of course you did. I refer to Alabama Soft Spoken Blues.
What a joy to hear from Sarah & find that Nanci appeals not only to us
baby boomers but also to the young. Great music is indeed timeless.
I have been unable to find time to further bore you with reflections on
the "bios" thing, but I will get to it. This is due to a sudden upturn
in the agricultural boom spraying thing, which is my "bit on the side".
Sheep Farming has joined the long list of non profit industries, so in
order to partake of life's little luxuries (like eating) I spray on the
side. This involves long hours in the Toyota 4WD spray-rig destroying
the enemies of other poor farmers whilst charging an exorbitant rate per
hour. Well, eating isn't cheap these days. One advantage is an abundance
of music listening time. I finally got Winter Marquee last week, & am
enjoying the freshness & vibrancy therein a lot. Went & ordered the DVD
as well.
Question ..where are all the Irish Nanci fans? None turned up in the
bios!! Perhaps they are all doing what I found to be one of life's most
joyful pastimes...sitting in Irish seaside pubs sucking on pints of the
most glorious brew ever contained in a glass...sweet, creamy Guinness.
Now available all over the world, but generally close to undrinkable
except in its home country. Must be the preservatives. Ah well, must
sneak back under the flap of the marquee.
Regards....Barry

Barry,
I had no idea that Guinness wasn't the same worldwide. I had to severely
curtail my drinking about thirty years ago because it started to get me
into some really deep doo-doo; things like waking up in a corn field,
etc. Anyhow, I love the taste of beer and mostly drink the non-alcoholic
brands like Coors Cutter. Certain foods such as chili, barbecue, and
pizza demand beer. I did drink a Guinness a few years ago, but I don't
remember what it tasted like. I wish Shiner Bock made a non-alcoholic
version.
Back to music, I bought a CD last week that I want to recommend to the
country/western fans here. Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, and the Notorious
Cherry Bombs teamed up to make a little jewel entitled "The Notorious
Cherry Bombs," which is the band's name. (Google them when you have a
chance. Quite a history.) There is one really hilarious track named,
"It's Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew Your A$$ Out All Day
Long."
We're having the coolest and rainiest June/July/August here in North
Texas that I can remember, and I've lived here since 1956. It's raining
right now, so I won't be able to mow the yard 'til tomorrow. Kinda
enjoyable.
Life is sweet,

Subject: Nanci -- Expatriate?
From: Bill (bpage3@earthlink.net>

Hey, folks,
It has been reported that Nanci Griffith, in a recent interview,
asserted that if George Bush were re-elected, she would move out of the
country (I don't remember if the article said Ireland, but that would be
my assumption).
WITHOUT TURNING THIS INTO A BUSH vs. KERRY DEBATE, I was wondering
about your thoughts regarding this move, to wit:
* what affect would it have on Nanci's songwriting?
* if not Ireland, where?
* what other singer-songwriters do you know of who have
become expatriates for political reasons?
* would this decision affect your opinion of Nanci? why or why not?
PLEASE don't use this to trash either candidate; I'd like to think we
could discuss this important topic at the level suggested.
