(Andy Most gave me permission to post this link.)
Sounds like something that could have fit nicely into
one of Nanci's earlier albums. I vaguely remember Sisters
Wade being discussed here a few years ago, but this is
their latest album. Andy Most is a producer and guitarist,
and I believe the dobroist, Charles Williams, played in
Nanci's group awhile back. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Shawn.
Liza and I drove to Jackson, MS last night; took us twelve hours.
Yesterday we drove up to Memphis.
I'm almost certain that the house flooded up to the roof so I suspect
that
most of what we own has been destroyed--including my guitar collection.
And my Nanci memorabellia, including the autograph and the fax she sent
me.
But we're safe and I have all my writing projects downloaded to a
portable
computer. Everything else is just stuff so it's not that important.
I don't know when we can get back to New Orleans. I suspect Iwon't get
back till July because I'm off to Hong Kong next week for an entire
academic year.
Best wishes for all--everybody consider buying a boat.

I just saw that Nanci is scheduled at the Birchmere on October 26, 27,

Oh, but Richard Thompson will be there on the 24th as well.
Tough choice!
Hope everyone is doing well out there in nancinet land.

If you have a lazy weekend to while away and you enjoy music lists you
might like to take a look at the Metacritic site. It compiles annual
'best of' lists based on a composite of leading music critics' reviews
(minimum of 7 to qualify). And there's other interesting stuff too.
Here's a link to the last completed year:

Subject: NN: A Nanci Ballad Question
Hello to all!
I am getting married in the near future, and I've started selecting
music
for my reception. My dad and I have fairly different musical tastes. I
like classic rock, he likes jazz and blues. BUT, we both love folk and
folk-rock, and we both LOVE Nanci.
I figured that for the father-daughter dance, a Nanci song would be the
obvious choice, but I simply can't come up with a good one. I'm very
familiar with the albums I've got (having nearly worn them out), but I
don't feel like I really have a handle on her whole catalog. I'm hoping
some of you who are more familiar with her work might be able to come up
with something!
The song should be suitable for a slow dance, but definitely does not
need
to actually be *about* fathers or daughters. My dad has always been my
champion and I have relied heavily on him all my life, so something
with a
trust or gratitude theme would work really well.
If nothing comes to mind as far as Nanci songs go, he's also a big
fan of
Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Iris DeMent, Lyle Lovett,
Darden Smith, Lucinda Williams, John Prine, and similar artists. I
would
really love to dance with him to a song he'd love.
Thanks so much to anyone who has time to give this some thought. Any
suggestions are GREATLY appreciated, and if you'd prefer to e-mail me
directly, I am at katybugil@aol.com.
Thank you!!!

"Turn Around" off OVOR. I know it was not written by Nanci, but good
heaven.
When I play that song and look at my daughter, my heart aches and I
get an
early onset of empty nest syndrome. And she is only 8!

Good call, Paul. I danced with my father to that song at my wedding
reception in '93. He hadn't wanted to pick the song; just said
"anything".
"Turn Around" brought tears to his eyes & mine.

Subject: NN: Nanci in Germantown, TN (Memphis Area)
Well it has been quite a month.....First, Hurricane
Katrina......second, my 10 day vacation to Highland NC
had to be cancelled due to the gasoline shortage
caused by Katrina......then my 14 year old chihauhau,
Rosa, passed away on Labor Day......next came a leg
bite from a brown recluse spider....very painful and
unpleasant.....then Hurricane Rita. Even though I
know how much devastation was left in the wake of the
two hurricanes.....September 2005 has not been my
finest hour either.
On the sunny side, Nanci Griffith will be performing
in Germantown, TN on Saturday, October 15, 2005. I
just purchased tickets for the 6th Row Center for
$48.00 each + misc. fees. There are a good number of
excellent seats still available...prices are $48.00 -
$35.00. To purchase online go the website for the
Germantown Performing Arts Center. This will be my
8th time seeing Miss Nanci. If it is anything like
the performing in July at the Atlanta Botanical
Gardens it will be simply amazing. She was the best I
have ever seen her perform...and I just couldn't pass
up the change to see her at that peak once more. I
had a choice...either Nanci or Dolly Parton....I chose
Nanci! But, Dolly might come later! :)
On that note, Dolly Parton will release a new album on
Tuesday, October 11th, 2005 titled "Those Were The
Days". It is an album of cover songs like the title
cut, The Twelfth of Never, Imagine, Blowin' In The
Wind and others. If you go to the Sugarhill Records
website (www.sugarhillrecords.com) you can hear the
first single "Where Do The Children Play". The song
was written by Cat Stevens and I have loved the song
since I first heard it in the early 70's. Dolly adds
her own unique style to the tune and it sounds
fantastic. Cat Stevens even guests (instrumentation)
on the cut. I can hardly wait till the release date!
Just wanted to share this info with others!

I was at Nanci's show in River Forest about three weeks ago. It was at
Dominican University - a really nice theater, and just the right size,
imo. I saw Chris Thile & Edgar Meyer there last year, and they didn't
even
have to use microphones! We had seats in the 7th row, and the whole main
level of the auditorium and about the first three rows of the balcony
were
sold out. Clive, Le Ann, and Pat sang a couple of songs (Cornerstone,
Antidote, Back when Ted Loved Sylvia, West End, and Soft, Warm and Dark
among them) before intermission. After intermission, Nanci came out
wearing a brown plaid skirt and brown jacket. Here's the set list,
slightly out of order:
Banks of the Pontchartrain
Simple Life
Speed of the Sound of Loneliness
Love at the Five and Dime
Workin' in Corners (my favorite song of the evening - brought tears
to my
eyes)
The Flyer
Beautiful ("Scatting on Letterman? What were ya thinkin'?")
From a Distance ("Nanci Griffith's voice hurts people's ears")
Late Night Grande Hotel
Heart of Indochine
I Love this Town (I still say it's about the cattiness at my dance
studio,
not a town)
Before
Gulf Coast Highway - Nanci mentioned something about selling a Gulf
Coast
Highway DVD through her
website to raise money to restore Highway 90 in Louisiana. Anyone
have any
details about this?
Listen to the Radio
Love Conquers All
It's a Hard Life Wherever You Go
Last Train Home

Encore: No Expectations
Since this was my first Nanci concert, I had been looking forward to it
for weeks. I definitely wasn't disappointed. Nanci puts on a show
like no
other.

Howdy all,
I'm not sure if this list is still up and running, so here
goes. I've been a fan for quite sometime and used to belong
to the list (that's how I got my copies of the Poet in my
TV video collection, even).
Anyways, I decided to put together a complete document of
all of the chords to all of Nanci Griffith albums and I
just finished with the first draft. I'm sure there are a
number of errors with chords, tunings, capo, etc. I'd love
some help getting this all corrected and then sharing it
with the Nanci world out there.
So, if you're interested in helping drop me a line and I'll
send you a word doc and pdf of the file. (If you just want
a copy of the first draft, I can send a copy of the pdf.
The reason to do that would be that different computers
open up the doc differently which could affect spacing
making it messier than need be.)
Here's a list of what's been done so far. I'm sure I'm
missing some more rare of the albums.
THEREÕS A LIGHT BEYOND THESE WOODS
POET IN MY WINDOW
ONCE IN A VERY BLUE MOON
THE LAST OF THE TRUE BELIEVERS
LONE STAR STATE OF MIND

OTHER VOICES, TOO
